Borough Council met Monday to address traffic safety with speed signs and street markings. Burgess Paul W Seldomridge outlined plans to obtain a Philadelphia engineering firm estimate for future water service development tied to a potential federal sewer grant.
The Lancaster County Egg Auction resumed its regular schedule on Tuesday with auctions held Tuesday and Thursday at 10 a.m. DST. This week saw 277 crates sold, drawing buyers from afar. more large buyers are expected. Farmers are urged to bring eggs or use delivery to fetch top market prices.
Liberty Fire Company plans to revise its by laws after April meeting led by chaplain Rev. C G Bachman. President George Good names Robert Witmer Ivan P Lowry and William J Kochel to the by laws committee. Uncle Jack and His Cowboys perform in New Holland on Tuesday May 23 under company auspices.
Mr and Mrs Emory Herr announce the birth of a son at 10 16 am Sunday at Lancaster General Hospital. Mr and Mrs John S Miller announce the birth of a daughter at their home on Sunday Bird in Hand R 1.
A marriage license was issued to Robert W. Lowry of New Holland and Margaret H. Stroman of Goodville confirming their upcoming wedding.
Mrs. Erma Ditzler will lead a May 11 3 00 p.m. school assembly honoring mothers with a fashion show by high school girls and a violin solo by Joyce Hooker with Glenn Wright. Mary Rohrbach chairs, Helen Weaver reads, followed by a tea for mothers and student volunteers serving refreshments.
The New Holland office ranks seventh in per capita Savings Bonds sales among Pennsylvania post offices. Leola is ninth and Intercourse sixteenth among fourth class offices. Total sales through March 31 1939 exceed 2 487 108 850 in maturity value with about 1 564 608 investors. Calendar year 1938 purchases total 707 291 650, averaging 2 334 300 per business day. Chicago leads national and first class post offices with 33 813 900. Calumet Michigan heads second class offices with 219 918 75. Horse Cave Kentucky leads third class.
An 1889 account notes a collision on Main Street between Dr. Showalter and John Shetzley as both drivers rode fast in the dark. Showalter’s horse tangled with Shetzley’s buggy. no one was hurt. A Philadelphia ad seeking a wife drew 200 letters in four days.
Miss Caroline E Northeimer daughter of J C Northeimer Narvon and Thomas D Starkey of Cleveland Ohio son of Grover Starkey Akron Ohio were married at Grace Lutheran Church with Dr Allen L Benner officiating. The couple will reside in Lancaster after a wedding trip.
Blank Farra Earl C Blank son of Mr and Mrs Blank of Phoenixville and Miss Ethel Farra daughter of Mr and Mrs Lewis W Farra of Chester Springs were married at the U B parsonage White Horse with Rev F E Druckenbrod officiating. The ring ceremony was used. The couple left for a wedding trip to Washington DC and other points and will reside at Valley Hill Chester County on June 1.
Oscar M. Houck son of Roy S. Houck and Effie F. Simmons daughter of Harry H. Simmons were married at the United Brethren parsonage at 11 a m on Saturday by Rev F C Aungst with the ring ceremony. Attendants were Stanley Leicy and Dorothy Houck. The couple will reside at Blue Ball.

County Treasurer Henry S. Shirk and allies Harry Oberholzer George Ravert and William Weaver followed the Harrisburg tax bill vote. They heard a 30 to 18 result but disagreed on the outcome and resolved to read morning papers for the true verdict.
Miss Anna Musselman led the Business and Professional Women's Club gathering at Miss Kathryn Steffy’s Brimmer Avenue home with 12 members. They endorsed the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra and planned the May 15 Ye Village Inn dinner in Ephrata with committees named. The group discussed the library booklet Woman at Work and enjoyed games led by Miss Marian Frankhouser and Miss Kathryn Steffy.
The New Holland Mennonite Sewing Circle met in the Sunday school room on Wednesday to sew for local mission stations and quilt. The Luther League of Zion Lutheran Church Leacock will observe Mother's Day with a special service on Wednesday May 10 at 7 30 p m DST under Dorothy Koenig and league members. Vocal selections by the Junior Choir include a duet by Anna Harnish and Thelma Wenzel.

More than 250 Lutheran youths met Friday night at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lancaster to organize the Lancaster Luther League. Rev. Frank Crennan opened the gathering with Dr. Emil Weber from Pottsville explaining the new body’s aims. Officers elected include President Luther Killian and Vice President Paul Boar with a temporary executive committee and several delegates named to the Youth Activities committee.

Walter A Ranck died at 8 30 am Monday at 88 West Main Street in the borough after a week long illness. A carpenter and United Brethren church member, he belonged to the I C O F of Honey Brook. Survived by wife Mary Miller and two daughters Ethel of Philadelphia and Greta Cunningham of Kennett Square, two grandchildren and two brothers William S of Llanerch and Clarence E of Leola. Funeral from Esbenshade Funeral Home Thursday at 2 30 pm. Interment in Honey Brook Methodist cemetery.
Mrs Edna Hershey forty five wife of H Clay Hershey died at 3 p m Thursday at her Paradise township home after a three year illness. She was born in Salisbury township daughter of Mrs Mary Hershey and the late Jacob E Hershey. She belonged to the Mennonite church and is survived by her husband her mother nine children three sisters and five brothers, with funeral at the family home in Paradise township.
