Deaths of Captain Cornelius McClellan and Maria Shiffer
Captain Cornelius McClellan of Mifflintown died at home on April 16 1918 in his 70th year after a long business career and Civil War service. Maria Shiffer of Weaverland died at age 68 years 9 months and 27 days after six months illness. Both were members of local churches and buried in Union Cemetery and Rothsville Lutheran grounds respectively.

Woman Suffers Severe Burns in West Main Fire
On Thursday morning Mrs. Milton Groff sustained severe burns to about one fourth of her body when her clothing ignited during rubbish burning behind the Groff home on West Main street. Neighbors smothered the flames, Dr. J A Hoffman treated her, and her husband said the injuries are painful but not expected to be life threatening. she remains bedfast for some time.
