Samuel Martin aged sixty of near Reidenbachs was killed Thursday morning when struck by a large stump piece blasted on John A. Weaver’s farm. He stood by a wagon loading tobacco stalks and did not see the wood coming. Survived by brother C R Martin and sisters Lizzie Nolt and Susan. Funeral private Sunday at 1 pm, public service at Weaverland Mennonite church at 2 pm, burial in adjoining cemetery.

George W. Alderfer sixty six of 408 Beaver street died at the General hospital Monday morning after a three year illness. He belonged to the Cigar Makers Union of Lancaster and is survived by two brothers Lewis of Ephrata and Frank of this borough a son Frank of Portland Oregon a daughter Mrs Conrad Plefer and a stepson J L Dewoody both of this city and several grandchildren. Services were held from the home Wednesday afternoon at two with interment at River View Burial Park.

Big Prices for Horses and Mules At Public Sale
A public sale of 28 Iowa horses and mules at the William Z. Martin farm near the borough yielded a total over $6,000 with an average of $151.50 per head. A pair of five year old grey horses brought $400 and a black mule pair sold for $550. Twenty local horses were sold on commission as well. The sale began at 9 a.m. and finished by noon with a free lunch provided by Mr. Martin.
