Charles Hillard, age 98, obituary details appear garbled but indicate a burial service at Terre Hill cemetery. Dr. C. Henninger of the borough is listed as charge.
Mrs Susanna Mentzer of Groffdale died Tuesday morning at 9 oclock following pneumonia. She was the wife of Calvin Mentzer and a resident of the borough. The obituary notes her local ties and longtime residence.
The Lions Club of this borough schedules its regular semi monthly meeting at the New Holland House on Tuesday evening March 22. Topics for discussion include several important questions and plans for Easter activities such as a visit to the men and boys.
The Auxiliary announces a poverty social with an attic theme to raise funds. Admission fines are capped at twenty five cents for adults and ten cents for children, with a planned program including dancing and fortune telling to attract attendees.
The Christian Endeavor Society of the United Brethren Church awarded prizes for the greatest weekly and total chapters read in a Bible Reading Contest. A total of 6797 chapters were read by 29 participants, with Miss Anna M. Bair reading 1189 chapters and Gilbert Wanner 581 chapters.
Second meeting of the Mission Study Class at United Brethren High will be held Sunday evening.
More than one hundred worshippers gathered at Trinity Lutheran Bible School room for a second special Lenten service led by Rev. H A Bret tle with Rev. F C Aungst giving the address. Today Rev Mr Aungat will lead scripture and prayers. Bible School contest pits Lutheran and Reformed at 154 and 155 points respectively. Miss Helen Mentzer will perform The Lost Chord and Melody in F before Sunday evening service.
The New Holland Music House postpones the Orthophonic Victrola demonstration by Jere F. Werner from March 21 to April 4 at the High School Auditorium. The automatic machine will record and play a continuous one hour concert. Further details to appear next week.

Auction action planned at Hess Store with another merchandise sale announced. Details are sparse but indicate a major sale event proceeding today.
A Intercourse woman died shortly after a fall down basement stairs. Mrs. Burkey, injured when she struck a concrete abutment at the bottom, died at St. Joseph Hospital fifteen minutes after admission. Survived by husband, three daughters Anna Kauffman Lloyd Laushey and Mrs Harry Shaub, plus brothers Edwin Slaymaker Kinzer Ysaac Hostetter Mrs Joseph Kisterboek Mrs Bertha Cramer and John Slaymaker.
Eaab Earl residents form a committee Harry M Gerhart John Ewell Horace Warner to install a 20 by 12 by 12 foot cistern near the Scott Powell creamery to provide a ready water supply for fire protection. The creamery pump will refill the cistern during fires as farmers offer free labor stone and materials and have raised about $250.
Alfred N. Russell of Federalsburg Md and former resident of the borough will sing several vocal selections at the Christian Endeavor Society meeting of the United Brethren Church next Sunday at 6 00 PM. Russell now 85 still reputed for his vocal ability, is visiting relatives in the area.
A three town Lions Club representing Bareville Leola and Leacock was organized Monday night at Bareville Fire Hall with twenty charter members and several prospects. Officers named include Charles Cooper president Clarence E Ranch secretary and H Harsh treasurer.
Gene Weiler hosts a weekly dancing class at the Family Theatre in the borough. Lessons run from 8:00 to 9:00 PM each Monday with dancing from 9:00 PM to midnight. A few participants are enrolled with more joining weekly.
On Sunday March 18 at 1 o'clock Mr. John Hart of Birdsboro entertained friends in honor of the Burgess of Pottstown. A chicken and waffle dinner was served at the Glen Grill Restaurant with ten covers. Banquet hosted by Mr. and Mrs. A W Weiler.
An intensely human film from Lois Weber style will grace the Family Theatre next Thursday night. The University-Jewel production documents a girl's rise from obscurity to stardom on the stage.
Mrs James Feffer and many neighbors from Philadelphia and nearby towns visited Mrs Emma Snader and daughter Minerva in Jackson street over the weekend. Guests included Mr and Mrs Harvey Hershey Lititz, Mr and Mrs Addison Fasnacht Rothsville, and numerous others from Ephrata Narberth Blue Ball and Lancaster counties.
