Wenger’s school in East Barl township taught by Miss Laura Coldren received a Standard School Certificate and pennant. Assistant Superintendent D W Geist presented the certificate and praised the effort while Phares M Zimmerman accepted on behalf of the School Board. A flag pole with an American flag and pennant was installed, visible from nearby homes, and the certificate is valid for one year with hopes for renewal.

Trains Wreck Near Elizabethtown Leaves Many Dead
Eighteen people killed and about forty injured when Pennsylvania Railroad Train No. 19 derailed above Elizabethtown after hitting a landslide in a deep cut. The high speed collision buried cars under rock and earth. Doctors from Elizabethtown Lancaster and Harrisburg assisted the injured.

Double Funeral for Miller Couple in Intercourse
Joseph Miller and his wife died within days of each other in Intercourse. Joseph died Sunday at 4 30 PM after a stroke at age 72. Mrs Miller passed Wednesday morning from pneumonia as the bereaved couple were longtime residents. Funeral services were held Thursday at 9 AM with interment in Zeltenreich’s cemetery.

Death of Joseph Rupp in West Earl after assault and robbery
Joseph Rupp a respected West Earl farmer died at his home near Farmersville after injuries from an assault on February 8. The attacker Adam Henry alias Moyer from Bernville was captured at a trolley station and charged with felonious assault. Rupp aged 87 leaves his second wife and three sons. Funeral held at home and Metzler's meeting house.

Destructive Northwest Storm Ravages County in March
A second March gale from the northwest caused widespread damage last Sunday. Peak winds around 40 miles per hour unroofed buildings, toppled trees, blew down chimneys and shutters, and wrecked fences. In Ephrata a Glasser Hosiery Co building roof was ripped off and flung onto a two story house, injuring no one.
