United States Senator William Brimage Bate of Tennessee died at his Washington hotel apartments at age 78 from pneumonia and a defective heart. He attended the March 4 inauguration, remained at his post Tuesday, then grew worse at a dinner that evening. Survived by widow and two daughters, Mrs. Thomas R. Masten of Tennessee and Mrs. Childs of Los Angeles.
