Man and Girl Rescued From River Flood Near Renovo
Earl Horst of East Earl and Alice Esbenshade of New Holland faced drowning as floodwaters rose in the west branch of the Susquehanna River about 12 miles southeast of Renovo Clinton County. A truckload of oil drums blocked the road when the protecting wall washed away, and Horst carried his companion through neck deep water to safety atop the drums as the truck stalled. The daring rescue occurred during rapid flood conditions on the way to Warren.
