Firemen's Fair Opens With Strong Support At Harner’s Theatre
The Firemen's Fair drew fair attendance and generous support at Harner's Theatre last Saturday night with receipts over $200. Blue Ball orchestra provided lively music as cakes and articles were sold. the fair continues tonight and on March 9 and March 16 with Roth's Lancaster orchestra billed for a patriotic program.

East Earl township gained its first standard school certificate and pennant when Assistant County Superintendent D. W. Geist presented the Blue Ball schools. I. W. Martins and Miss Margaret Lied lead the faculty in a patriotic program enjoyed by pupils, patrons, and directors. Director P. M. Zimmerman accepted the certificate, with brief remarks by H. S. Shirk and Cyrne Gehr. The gathering closed with singing America.

Old Offenders Caught In Larceny Case
Two Welsh Mountain Rangers Chester Green and Alfred Green were brought before Justice Frank McGranh in Manheim township for larceny. Alfred faced charges for stealing a pig hay core and a whip from Salisbury township, while Chester allegedly stole four bales of tobacco and a buggy whip from John Reeser’s barn. The theft on January 2 led to a high profile pursuit by State Trooper Ely and Constable Steigerwalt. Green was wounded and hospitalized. Both were jailed awaiting trial after confessing to the District Attorney that they sold tobacco to John Evans of the Cross Keys Hotel in Intercourse for 15 dollars and also sold stolen chickens. Evang was held on bail for a hearing this week.

Miss Sarah J. Baum, born February 20, 1824 in New Berlin, Snyder County, Pa., died after a long life of faith and service. She remained mentally sharp until two weeks before her final illness, leaving a network of nieces and nephews and a legacy of Lutheran church and Sunday school work. Interment will be in the Kobler burial plot after services in Stroudsburg. The issue also reports Lancaster county drafting 107 men for Camp Meade, with detailed unit and district assignments and names.

Sunday Morning Fire at Percy Shaub Residence
Fire destroyed part of the Diller avenue home of Percy Shaub after a defective flue allowed smoke and flame to fill the sitting room and lath walls. Chemical engines and water hoses battled the blaze, causing water damage to carpets clothes and bedding. Loss estimated in the hundreds with insurance coverage expected.
