Auto kills toll keeper at Bird-in-Hand gate
Ammon Graybill of Bird-in-Hand struck Celia Howard the toll gate keeper at gate No 2 on the Bird-in-Hand turnpike east of Lancaster. Howard died two hours after at General Hospital Lancaster. Graybill faced involuntary manslaughter charges with bail set at 1000 for September term.

Raising Wild Ducks Near Lancaster Attracts Attention
Frank Demmy of the Conestoga valley farms east of Lancaster tends a flock of 75 wild ducks. He released them after capture a year ago and they roam freely yet stay nearby. The ducks are hardy and unusually tame. William Mathers of Lititz also raises wild ducks, with a ten-strong flock from a pair captured a year ago on the Landis Adaire farm.

Veterans funerals aid surges as county funds expand
County records show 37 Civil War veterans died this year with funeral cost relief. State law pays 35 to cover funeral expenses and 15 for marking graves for those buried by relatives. the county may also supply headstones at 40. The fund totals about 31,800.20 to date, with amendments in 1911 extending eligibility to Spanish American War and earlier conflicts.
Won Grand Prize in Morning News Song and Story Contest
