Churchtown observed Memorial Day with an evening parade and cemetery services. crowds gathered at Methodist Episcopal and Caernarvon cemeteries as children decorated graves, ro ro Rohrerstown Band played martial music, and Rev. Robert F. Whiston delivered the keynote address at the fire hall.
Sixteen babies attended a Well Baby Clinic in the basement of the Farmers Bank building on Wednesday. One new registration was recorded Shirley Harnish daughter of Mr and Mrs Willis Harnish of New Holland. The next clinic will be July 6 at 2 30 p m instead of 2 p m with Bess Gilfillan hosting Clara Hendricks R N and Dr PR Wentz as attending physician.
Ralph Overly and his quartet from Ephrata will perform a sacred concert at Bridgeville Evangelical Congregational Church on Saturday evening June 4 at 7 30 o clock. The Al Fe cis of the Sunday School is Msoring this service.
The Eighteenth Annual Lancaster County Firemen's Association Convention meets in Quarryville on Saturday June 4 with Liberty Fire Company of New Berlin marching, a band, and the Ladies Auxiliary. A parade at 4 PM will be one of the county’s largest, followed by a Firemen's Jubilee and prize drawings.
Mrs J A Hoffman Miss Virginia Hoffman and Miss Betty Wright depart Saturday for New York City where they board the S S Rotterdam for a nine day trip to Nassau in the Bahamas and Havana Cuba. Mrs Margie Ashley returns home to Philadelphia after two weeks with the Overly family and friends.
A large community sale sponsored by C. E. Sensenig and Jacob Zimmerman will be held on the Sensenig property in Blue Ball on Saturday, June 4. Goods for Edwin Messner and others will also be offered. See advertisement on Page &.
In Lancaster, J. C. Henninger, a well known local funeral director, was admitted Saturday to Lancaster General Hospital for medical observation and rest. He will remain there about two weeks.
In Earl Township on June 2 1888 prospective teachers faced questions on theory of teaching grammar geography physiology reading and spelling. The list reveals the period’s exam focus and the appointed teachers for districts including New Holland Hinkle Cross Roads Earl Union Linden Grove Amsterdam and more with a note of continuation on page 4.
Mrs Emaline R Burkholder 88 widow of Joseph Burkholder died Sunday at her Farmersville home from complications. She belonged to Groffdale Mennonite church and is survived by ten children, 56 grandchildren, 103 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Funeral services were at her home then Graffdale Mennonite church with interment in the adjoining cemetery.
Christian Lichty 82 died Sunday at his Paradise home from complications. He was a long time building contractor, a Paradise Mennonite Church member, and survived by four children all of Paradise, a Lancaster brother, fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Brief services were held at his home and at Paradise Mennonite Church with interment in the adjoining cemetery.
Anna Miriam Wenger daughter of Eli and Anna Wenger of Blue Ball won five awards at the 34th annual Nurses Training School commencement at Lancaster Catholic High School Rossmere. She was valedictorian and received Cum Laude and awards in ear nose and throat pediatrics emergencies and medical diseases. Wenger is a New Holland High School graduate.
Licensed to wed John W. Good of New Holland and Beatrice A. Slack of Intercourse. Jacob H. Musser of New Holland and Etta H. Weaver of New Holland R. D. 1 are registered as a couple pending marriage.
On Tuesday May 21 Dr W A Foust searched the Colonial Inn Bareville for a Medical Association meeting he believed would be there. A mistaken card and a joking misdate led him to think the event was today rather than the 2st of May or the 21st of June.
Mr and Mrs Ro Farrel Rank s R 1 announce a daughter born at home on Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Landis Charles Ranks R 1 report a son born at 7 31 p m Thursday at Lancaster General hospital. Mr and Mrs Samuel Beiler Gap ter born at 8 01 a m Saturday at Lancaster General hospital. Mr and Mrs Harry Miller announce a daughter born at 2 52 a m Thursday at Lancaster General hospital. Mr and Mrs Park Bryson Inter course announce a daughter born at their home on May 21.
The third anniversary reunion of Rev I. B. Good's Terre Hill high school pupils will be held Saturday afternoon June 4 at 4 o'clock in the high school. George Bewley of Coatesville directs school songs and an old-fashioned spelling bee will also be held. Rev W Scott Brendle of Denver will speak.
A Daily Vacation Bible School will be held in the United Brethren church for two weeks beginning Monday morning. Sessions run 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. (CT). Parents are urged to send their children.
A regional Lions Clubs gathering for Lancaster County will be hosted by the Lions Club of Strasburg and vicinity. The meeting occurs Tuesday June 7 at 7 30 p m CT in the West Lampeter High School auditorium Lampeter.
The Ladies' Bible Class of Ranch's United Brethren Church in Querry's Grove will hold a strawberry social on Saturday June 4. If rain interrupts the event it will be moved to the Blue Ball fire hall.

Terre Hill held its first Old Home Week with an Amateur Show at the fire hall on Friday May 27 featuring 15 contestants. Prizes went to Robert Gorecht Roy Dunn Charles Griffiths Ruth Winney Dorothy Greenwart and Alberta Lichty. Judges included H S Shirk Sabina Bard Rev M J Steichwald and H L Lichty. A festival followed on Saturday evening with music by the Reamstown band.
The marriage of Miss Mary Lucin da Kine daughter of Mr and Mrs Vernon K Kline to Dr Robert A Ranck son of Mr and Mrs Samuel W Ranck of Leola occurred Saturday at 11 am in Lancaster at the home of officiant Dr John B Noss. Attendees included Dr and Mrs Robert M Platzgraff of York. After a wedding trip they will reside in Leola.
Martin and Miss Edna K. Martin, both of New Holland and Kat Earl families, were married last Thursday evening at 7 at the home of Rev. W. P. Martin in Akron. Attendants included Mary Weber Eva Kurtz Ammon Weaver and Ivan Martin.
A Garden Party will be held Thursday June 9 at 6:00 p m in the Irons orchard on East Main Street. Sponsored by the Ladies Aid Society of St Stephen Reformed church proceeds fund acousticons. Final plans set Friday at Mrs Lottie Snader 136 College Avenue Lancaster.
Wilson Bair of this borough will be the guest soloist on Sunday morning at the Methodist Episcopal church service.
A strawberry social hosted by the Ladies Aid Society of Zeltenreich Reformed Church is planned for Saturday June 4. Proceeds support church work and community outreach.
The Christian Education Union of the Fast Pennsylvania Conference United Brethren in Christ holds its Summer Assembly at Mt Gretna Campgrounds from June 21 to 29. Rev P B Gibble D D is president and Rev L Leroy Fegley chairs the program. Noted speakers include Rev J E Hartzler Bishop G D Batdorf and Rev J Gordon Howard with music led by Walter D Eddowes and Mrs Eddowes. Eight hundred twenty five delegates are expected to register with Rev G Edgar Hertzler as registrar.
The Upper Leacock Township school board reduced the school tax from 15 to 12 mills at a Friday night meeting. The head tax of $4 stayed the same. Elias R. Hers of Bareville was re-elected treasurer and the budget was adopted.
About one hundred fifty firemen and friends attended the Lancaster County Firemen's Association memorial service at Quarryville M E Church. George F. Weidler led the memorial committee, Rev. W R Knerr gave the sermon, and Rev. Walter F. Bryan assisted. Selections were performed by the Quarryville church choir. Deaths noted: John P. The Westminster Guild of Cedar Grove Presbyterian church will hold its annual open meeting at the church on Saturday evening June 4. A covered dish luncheon for members and guests will be served at 5 o'clock on the church lawn. An interesting program will follow the supper and everyone is invited.
Bannerette the Kentucky five gaited horse owned by Paul Z Martin of East Earl won first prize in Lancaster county five gaited saddle horse class at the fifth annual Junior League Horse Show in Lancaster. He also took first in the open five gaited class. Dr C W Richmond J C Showalter and Thomas Wentz served on the local show committee.
The Helping Hand Class of Trinity Lutheran Sunday School will hold a bake sale on Saturday morning in front of the New Holland Theatre at 10 30.
