Reopening of New Holland Pike Includes Parade and Ambulance Dedication

The newly constructed concrete section of New Holland Pike between Lancaster and Leacock will reopen Saturday at 2 45 PM with band music and speakers. A motor parade forms at Leacock at 1 30 PM and travels to Lancaster, returning about 2 39 PM. The new ambulance for Upper Leacock Township will be dedicated at Bareville Fire Hall at 4 PM, followed by a War Memorial Fund benefit ham supper for up to 1 000 attendees. Samuel R. Myer chairs the organizing committee.

New Lions International President Elected at New York Convention

Brig. By Enid Oklahoma was elected president by unanimous vote at the 31st annual Lions Clubs convention in New York. He succeeds Fred W. Smith of Ventura California as the association closes one of its most successful years.

Rotary Club Tours Ix Silk Mill in New Holland

On Monday July 26, 17 Rotary members plus guests toured the Ix Silk Mill after their dinner meeting. The two hour visit covered throwing and weaving operations and the steps for preparing gaya and acetate yarns before weaving. Refreshments were served in the cafeteria. Leacock Youth Drowns While Swimming at Pequea

Seventeen year old Charles Bechtold of Leacock drowned while swimming at Pequea Sunday. Deputy coroner Dr. W Giles Hess ruled accidental drowning. Bechtold and six companions were near shore in about twenty feet of water when he latched on to a companion and a second lifeguard effort failed. Bechtold had left home around 1 30 p m while his mother was hospital bound for eye treatment.
