Lightning Sets Fire To Barn Near Mennonite Church
A large barn on Amos Sensenig’s east of Blue Ball farm was struck by lightning at 5:00 p.m. Monday, causing $15,000 in damage. Fire crews from Blue Ball, Terre Hill, and Goodville saved four nearby buildings. livestock including two mules, two cows, a heifer and a dozen pigs were saved. The bolt knocked out telephone service delaying the call to firemen. The barn measured 44 by 80 feet and contained the season’s hay, straw, half the wheat crop, a wagon and a farm tractor trailer.
