A barn on the Sensenig property near Sheafferstown was consumed by flames after a fire alarm woke Isaac Sensenig and his family. The bucket brigade struggled to contain the blaze as the barn’s contents, including livestock, were destroyed. Mrs Henninger has since buried a family member in a local cemetery.
State Fish Commissioner Meeham states the law does not protect snapping turtles under the terrapin act. A Justice of the Peace sought guidance about arrests. Attorney General opinions support excluding snapping turtles. No arrests will be made. a fish warden later stops Brubaker for illegal fishing near Reading.

Robert J. Gottschall of Adamstown visited Earl Township to meet Sunday school workers and promote a district convention in the U B Church on September 6. I M Groff represents the Lancaster County Sunday School Association in the township and a grand rally is planned. A district convention will also be held in Manheim on September 5 and a grand rally at Eden is scheduled for August 31.
The New Holland Hook and Ladder Company hosted a festival in Martinsa Orchard last Saturday. Despite a heavy afternoon shower reducing attendance, about a thousand people enjoyed the event. Proceeds from the goods sold totaled a neat sum as the New Holland Band provided music and the crowd behaved well.
The Senior L T L met last Friday evening at H Bowers lawn instead of Mrs Alta Diller home due to heat. After minutes readings there were recitations and readings. The anti narcotics department was adopted replacing Sabbath observance by order of the county convention executive session. Refreshments of candy cakes and lemonade were served. The August meeting will be at Ralph Mutoh home.
