Boy Scout News at Silver Springs Camp
Local troop reports strong interest in the Lancaster Council camp at Silver Springs. Eighteen Scouts and Scout Master Townsley depart Monday on the 5:80 car for Camp Chiquetan for a week of supervised outdoor activities, meals by a hired chef, and health oriented instruction. Harry Hoffman has joined the troop as the latest recruit.

Mrs Susan Hall Dies After Fall From Window
Mrs Susan H Hall aged eighty two died instantly after falling from an open third floor window at her Columbia home while reaching for an heirloom chest. Her son Harry Hall and wife planned a surprise dinner. She was widow of Aaron H Hall and a daughter of the late Georges Sweigaart. Survived by son and one grandson Corporal George D Gall U S Army in Washington D C.

Destructive Fire at Millersville Slaughter House
A blaze at Jacob Thomas slaughter house in Millersville on Monday afternoon destroyed a 60 by 40 foot building and its machinery including a refrigerating plant. Three steers and two hogs were lost, with preliminary estimates around 5000 dollars. two horses, an automobile track, and four wagons were saved. Fires damaged nearby roofs and stables within 300 yards but were subdued after labor. The fire, blamed on a defective stove flue, caused significant property loss and insured damage.

Barn Destroyed by Lightning on Old Factory Road Farm
A lightning strike during a heavy storm destroyed Benjamin Den linger’s barn on the Old Factory road between Greenland and Smoketown, four miles east of Lancaster. Two cows died. two horses and other livestock were saved. About thirty acres of recently threshed wheat hay and straw burned along with threshing machinery, corn planter and other implements. Total loss over $4,000 covered by insurance.

Stable fire destroys Tony Vitale's stable in Lancaster
A midnight Wednesday blaze in Lancaster destroyed Tony Vitale's East Walnut Street stable between Franklin and Reservoir. The fire also damaged one automobile stored inside. The stable and contents suffered losses estimated at over 500 dollars. Firefighters removed the vehicle from the scene, but the cause remains under investigation.

A major blaze in Manheim on Tuesday afternoon destroyed fifteen buildings in two hours with damages estimated at thirty thousand dollars. Destructive Thunderstorm Destroys Farms in County
A severe thunderstorm struck the county on Friday afternoon causing major losses on several farms. At the George H. Danner estate near White Oak a large barn and tobacco shed were destroyed with nearly all contents, about 10,000 dollars. Ex Senator J Don Cameron’s Donegal Springs farm suffered a total loss of a 110 by 55 barn, a tobacco shed, an implement house, and contents valued over 10,000 dollars. At the M R Hoffman farm David Garber’s property a 160 by 48 tobacco shed burned, with 25,000 tobacco lath and 40 acres of wheat crop lost. total near 10,000 dollars.
