Jonas Nolt of Groffdale reports a man helped him harvest then stole nine horses and a buggy. The suspect fled the lockup by removing a wire and escaping west toward Mill Creek, pursued by Constables Dorwart and Bender. Temperature records show a drop from 91 to 67.
Andrew J. Dietrich of Boston Massachusetts former resident of this county died July 2 from stomach cancer at age 64 years four months nine days. He served as a sailor and sea captain after youth in New England and fought in the Civil War with the U S navy. Survived by a widow and five children with brother John Dietrich in the borough. He held Master Mason, Knights of Pythias, Theodore Winthrop Post No 85 A R and Naval Veterans association memberships.
A large freight wreck on the Pennsylvania Railroad between Conestoga Junction and the Conestoga bridge delayed travel for hours. Eleven empty cars were wrecked as a westbound train split apart, blocking all tracks. Parkesburg wrecking crew took about two hours to clear one line and the next eastbound train arrived after eight.

The Perre JMN Eptrada and New Holland lodges arrange a joint pigente at Bard's Grove on the Conestoga near Hinkle town. Ephrata band to provide music and professional singers are considered. Speakers undetermined but a grand lodge officer is expected to speak. Picnic set for Saturday August 17.
A Tuesday vote in Denver borough approved raising the school debt by 310 000 for a new school house. One hundred eighteen ballots were cast with 39 against and 79 in favor, marking the boroughs second such vote this month after previously approving 214 000. A water plant construction was also authorized.
A. G. Miller proprietor of the Eagle hotel and restaurant received on Thursday evening an unusually fine lot of snapper, ten in number, large and fat. The heaviest weighs twelve pounds with three eleven-pound fish, promising hearty stock for soup if prepared by Dr. Miller for patrons.
Wazon Abram Hooker of Green Bank mills displayed a new delivery wagon with light yellow running gear, light green body, and black top. The wagon features shaded lettering and was built at a local shop, adding a notable enhancement to mill delivery services.

On Sunday morning August 4 the sacrament of the Lord's Supper will be celebrated at Trinity Lutheran Church in this borough. Preparatory services are scheduled for Friday evening at 7:30 and a brief preparatory service on Sunday morning at 9:45.
