Churchtown Festival Draws Visitors for Summer Fair

Haymaking finishes as farmers market barley and beardless varieties thrive. The town hosts a large festival in the Academy grounds with ice cream, candies, and rides. the Churchtown band to perform with a parade at 6 pm. Death of George W. Stone of Fark township

George W. Stone a 43 year old resident of Fark township died at his Amsterdam home after a week of illness from cnatorrial troubles and heart failure. A stone mason and tobacco farmer, he was respected in the community a staunch Republican who served on election boards. Survived by wife five children and extended family, his funeral was held at Ranek church with West Part Castle K G F members in attendance.

Death of Daniel Esbenshade of Paradise Township

Daniel Esbenshade, 77, retired farmer of Paradise Township, died Sunday afternoon at his son Serenius's farm home of infirmities of age. Survived by four children and a deceased wife. He was a member of the Old Mennonite church. Funeral held Wednesday morning at Yo Clock on the house and 10:30 at the Old Mennonite Meeting House below Strasburg.

Young Horse Thief Captured in Christiana Case

Chester Mayhew aided by Samuel Watson and two boys were arrested at McGrath’s perk last Friday with two teams belonging to liveryman Harry Mullen of Christiana. They were committed to jail by Alderman Halbach to answer a charge of horse stealing. Mayhew hired the team Thursday and promised to return that evening but did not appear.

Mrs Anna Rissler dies at sixty in Earl township

Mrs Anna Rissler of Earl township died at her home near Voransville after a long illness aged sixty. She is survived by her husband Philip Rissler. The funeral was held yesterday at the Pike Mennonite church near Reidenbach store with interment there.

Weather and crops update with storm damage in borough

A lightning caused multiple telephone boxes to burn in the borough and a barn fire destroyed a 100 foot obs, a threshing outfit, and livestock. two cows and chickens perished. Some hay, wheat, tobacco and corn remain to be cut as farmers finish harvest preparations. Insurance covered some losses.

Pine Barn Fire Destroys Farm Structures Near Columbia

A fire swept a large pine barn a tobacco shed and several other outbuildings belonging to Daniel Barry along the road between Ironville and the Lancaster Pike near Columbia. Loss estimated between 10 000 and 12 000 dollars after Reuben Forry noticed a blaze in the barn floor and alerted others. Firefighters could not control the blaze as it spread rapidly fueled by strong winds.

A Marvelous Exhibition at Palmeraville

A crowd gathered to view a fire resistance test by T. A. Gould superintendent of agencies. An ordinary box coated with the resistant fluid withstood flames though charred, while surrounding materials and joists showed varying responses, prompting praise and recommendations for the paint.

Paria Green Found in Crime at Viel Ridge Road

A Paris green incident near Viel Deacock township involved a colt and a cow killed recently. Several quarts of cracked corn mixed with Paris green were found along the Ridge road near Tear Hollow schoolhouse. The motive remains a mystery but poison likely intended for fowl.

A brighter starlike comet appeared in the past week, located a little north of the zenith and near the Big Dipper. It lacks a visible tail, instead shining with a halo of light around a lone, large-magnitude star.
