Fire crews from New Holland Bareville and Leola responded to a blaze sparked by gasoline fumes at 8 p m on the ninth. Damage was estimated at 50 dollars with extensive damage to surrounding areas.
Mr and Mrs Miller L Mellinger of Ephrata announce the engagement of their daughter Fay V Mellinger formerly of New Holland to Harry Hoffman Jr son of Mr and Mrs Harry H Hoffman of Ephrata Miss Mellinger is a Lancaster Business College graduate and works as a bookkeeper for the Lancaster Community Service Association Hoffman completed pre medical studies at Lebanon Valley College and will enter Jefferson Medical College in September No wedding date is set.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry W. Myers of Rothsville announce the engagement of their daughter Elizabeth to Paul M. Zimmerman of Blue Ball, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Zimmerman.
The Groffdale Mennonite Church will sponsor a two week daily Vacation Bible School beginning Monday July 19. Sessions run from 7 to 9 p.m. for children age four and up with an adult class and supervision led by John Wenger and Elder Floyd Graybill.

The Voganville Congregation marks its centennial with two special services led by Pastor Rev Elmer H Sensenig. Bishop Peter Gress of Reinholds spoke at 10 a m and Rev Abram Rosenberger of Souderton delivered a 1 45 p m sermon. Music was provided by the Akron ladies Ottette.

Harry J. Kochel aged 53 of 214 West Main Street New Holland died at home Saturday at 5:00 am from a heart condition. He served as a Marine private overseas from October 1917 to April 1919 and fought in France Belgium and Germany. He belonged to Conestoga Post 662 American Legion Knights of the Golden Eagle and Liberty Fire Company. He worked as a printer and linotype operator for The Clarion Lancaster Newspapers and Honey Brook Herald. Survived by wife Geneva Ressler Kochel and son Robert, two brothers William of New Holland and Charles of Ephraim. Funeral at Esbenshade Funeral Home Wednesday at 2:30 pm.

The New Holland Rotary Club met at the Peoples Rest aurant with Ivan A. Shirk in charge. J. Z. Martin was installed as president while Shirk received a Past President pin and new officers for the year were inducted including Rev. C. B. Starr as vice president and J. Howard Rutter secretary.
Arthur A. Futer renowned archaeologist and Indian lore expert will speak at the New Holland Republican Club meeting at the Legion Home Monday at 8 p.m. A watermelon party will follow the talk.
