Threshing Machine Trial and Early Farm Implements
In 1859 Henry A Roland farm north of town hosted the first successful threshing machine using grain separation in one pass. John S Martin of East Earl sold an Easterly binder to Daniel Zimmerman who cut forty acres of wheat with only two sheaves missing. Martin had never handled a self binder before.

Brackhill's Hotel Historic Fire At Brownstown
The old Brackhill's Tavern near Brownstown burned to the ground. Built about 130 years ago by John Forney, it hosted horse races a century ago and later was known as Erb's tavern before the blaze. A separate note reports Daniel Kieffer, aged 88, missing for a week. a large search found his partly decomposed body six miles from home.

New Holland Garment Plant Resumes Work After Transformer Fire
A transformer burn out briefly halted operations at the New Holland Garment factory early Wednesday. The plant, employing 172, produced broadcloth and pink rayon taffeta princess slips before repairs allowed full operation later. Plant owner A M Zimmerman addressed workers on garment code and pay rolls were praised by a Department of Labor and Industry representative.

Harry K Hershey, 68, retired lumber merchant of 947 East King Street Lancaster, died suddenly at home Monday at 4 00 p m from an acute heart attack. He was son of the late Christian S and Elizabeth Kreider Hershey of Paradise. Survived by widow Nellie Roseboro, two children Louis C and Mary Elizabeth Hershey, two brothers J Walter Hershey Chattanooga Tennessee and John E Hershey Lancaster, and sister Elizabeth wife of F Clayton Snavely Hummelstown. Services were held at the home Thursday at 10 a m with burial in Trinity Lutheran cemetery, this borough.

Fire by bolt burns burn near Narvon
A Sunday afternoon thunderstorm hit the Narvon area with wind and lightning. A barn on George D. Witwer’s farm near Narvon was struck and destroyed by fire causing about 3000 dollars in damage. No livestock burned. hay and last year’s tobacco crop were lost. Fire companies from Blue Ball and Goodville fought the blaze and saved other structures.
