Work began on North Railroad Avenue as part of the sanitary sewer project. By press time over 1500 feet of trench filled pipe had been laid and a second trench digging machine was to be operated today for the North Roberts Avenue section. A third trench digger from Pittsburgh was expected to accelerate completion in the central street area.

Local Scout Heroic Rescue Effort On Sea Cruise
Gilbert Stauffer, son of Mr and Mrs Wilford G Stauffer, made a brave attempt to save Edward W Hite during a Sea Scout cruise in Chesapeake Bay. The two masted schooner rode a gale when Hite was swept overboard. Stauffer rushed from the hold to the deck but Hite drowned as cries of man overboard rang out.
