Sixty children aged three to sixteen register for an eight week Arts and Crafts Recreation Program. Schedules assign younger groups to mornings on specific days. older youth meet on M W F at 10 30. Instructors Mrs Harold Weber and Daniel Dagle oversee projects with exhibitions planned at Ivan Lowry's Store window July 7 to July 11.
Liberty Fire Company reports a hot but productive meeting at the Fire Hall. Members are urged to attend the regular first Wednesday monthly session and practice on the Ike Martin meadow, coordinating with the town’s telephone system to ensure fast emergency response.
New Hol land Farmers Day Exhibit opens a four day program with Amateur Night as the initial highlight on Wednesday. A barn dance Friday adds to the lineup while committees review budgets concessions premiums and Pig Show entries.
A Friday morning fire destroyed a barn owned by D B Nolt and tenanted by Isaac Hoover one mile west of New Holland. Losses totaled 25000 with a hammer mill 18 acres of hay four acres of wheat a calf and farming implements also burned. Fire Chief John L Wagner praised Liberty Fire Company for saving nearby properties and Intercourse firemen assisted.
Sealed bids for about eighty tons of stove coal and eighty tons of buckwheat coal for Earl Township schools will be received by the School Board until 7 p m Friday August 5 and publicly opened then. The board reserves the right to reject any or all bids. Elke George Ranck secretary.
The Ladies Aid Society and Women’s Bible Class of St Stephen Reformed Sunday School hosted their annual picnic Wednesday at the Community Park. Families were invited and many men joined for supper in one pavilion.
Several new dwelling houses in New Holland Borough are offered for sale by Evans and Co. of New Holland Pa. The properties include multiple lot sizes and styles, suitable for immediate occupancy or investment.
Borough officials authorize an agreement with the State Highways Department to estimate a curb to curb resurfacing cost for Main Street. The plan calls for about two and a half inches of bituminous surface from east to west borough limits. A joint meeting with the New Holland Borough Authority preceded the vote.

Mrs. Anna M Keen eighty six widow of Cassius H E Keen died Wednesday at 5 15 am at the home of her son Charles E Keen Bareville R 1 after an illness of three weeks She was born in Chester County daughter of the late John and Mary ae Sayers Her husband died in 1936 Surviving four children Harlan E Peach Bottom R 1 Mrs Carrie A Crothers Parkesburg Miss Irene L Keen Peach Bottom R 1 and Charles E Bareville R 1 also five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren Services will be held from the Fred F Groff Funeral Home Lancaster on Saturday morning at 10 30 Interment in the New Providence Evangelical and Reformed Cemetery Friends may call at the Groff Funeral Home this Friday evening between 7 and 9 O clock

The marriage of Alma Jane Myer daughter of Mr and Mrs Le Roy G Myer to Melvin Kolb son of Mr and Mrs Aaron Kolb was performed at 10 am Saturday in Bareville Brethren Church. Rev Clyde Weaver officiated with maid of honor Evelyn Good and bridesmaids Mildred Wenger and Lloyd Myer. Audrey Ann Myer was flower girl and Norman Kolb served as best man with ushers Floyd Myer and Carl Bomberger.
Miss Jean E. Oatman of Quarryville and Warren F. Benner of East Earl were wed at 2 p.m. on Thursday June 30 in the Denver Evangelical and Reformed Church parsonage. Rev. W Scott Brendle officiated.

Five Lancaster county post offices moved up in class in a Friday change. Mount Joy rose from second to first class with annual business over 40000 dollars. Leola Mountville and Strasburg up to second class while Bowmansville ascended to third and Kirkwood dropped to fourth. Leola gains second class status and eligibility for federal buildings planning.
A cold bolt of lightning hit a barn on the Elam Beiler farm between Intercourse and New Holland. The fire company responded but no fire occurred. rafters were damaged, roof slate broken, and boards torn from the gable end, per Fire Chief George Air.
Republican Party members in New Holland are urged to attend an open caucus at 5 p m in the local school house library to nominate candidates for borough offices and two 6 year school director seats to be chosen at the September 13 primary. Committeeman Roland Miller notes positions include burgess four year term four councilmen four year terms auditor one year justice of the peace six years constable six years judge and election inspector two year terms and two school directors six year terms. Mrs Parke Dunlap is committeewoman.
Local AmVets gathered at New Holland Community Park on Tuesday due to a scheduling change. They reported strong progress on a fundraising drive to secure a home for Garden Spot Post No. 40. The annual picnic is planned for August 14 at Longabachs Park near Beartown and the Am-Vets Carnival is set for August 6.
The Y M B L annual family picnic will be Tuesday July 19 at 6 30 p m in Community Park. Fried chicken will be the main course with all food drinks and incidentals provided by the League. Clyde H Kauffman chairs the committee.
Mary Esther Gerlach of Bird-in-Hand PA won a $100 nursing scholarship awarded by the Women’s Auxiliary of the Lancaster County Medical Society. The prize was presented by Mrs. Paul O Smut with the scholarship committee chaired by Mrs Snake. Gerlach, an Upper Leacock High School graduate, will begin training at Lancaster General Hospital in September.
The Earl Township School Board elected Mrs. Raymond Buckwalter of Leola as seventh and eighth grade teacher at the Western School. Miss Eleanor M. Snyder of New Holland resigned. Two teaching vacancies remain at Center and Crossroads Schools. The new budget totals about 75 000 dollars with a 16 mill tax rate and 5 dollar per capita tax. A tour of township schools is planned this month to check necessary repairs.
Mrs. Jason S. Lowry expresses gratitude to friends and relatives for cards flowers and visits during her stay at Lancaster General Hospital and after returning home.
The Fourth of July passed quietly in town with a parade and the Soldiers' Monument dedication in Penn Square Lancaster drawing 800 G A R members.
