Arnold Zwally of Broad Street Broad Street was recently graduated from Lebanon Valley College Annville Lebanon County. He received notice Saturday that he has been accepted to the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and will enter there after vacation to study medicine.
A reunion event will include a morning visit to lanes A and an introductory program. Addresses will be given by D. C. Bion and others, with a family gathering at the theatre for acquaintance and refreshments. Prizes for the oldest attendees and souvenir programs will be provided to all who register.
The Lions Club of New Holland holds its regular semi monthly meeting at the Legion Home West Main Street on Tuesday evening July 10 at 8 00 o clock Entertainment will be provided by the club s three past presidents Wm E Davis H Earle Wright and Paul F Esbenshade Full attendance of members is requested.
The July 2 meeting closed the 1927-28 year with a reduced debt of 5500 dollars. Tuition receipts reached 2968 dollars, signaling growing school popularity. Howard M. Hoffman was re-elected treasurer and Harry Dunlap nearly appointed janitor. Miriam I. Mercer of Coates was elected as music instructor.
The local New Holland team defeated Strasburg 12 to 3 in a tight game that stayed scoreless through three innings. Weiler starred with hits and a key defensive catch, while Sheaffer fanned seventeen in a superb pitching display. J P Althouse struck out thirteen for Strasburg but yielded thirteen safe hits as New Holland pulled away in the later innings.
Delegates who attended the Mt Gretna convention last week will preside at the Sunday evening Senior Christian Endeavor meeting. They will report on convention proceedings and express enthusiasm for the excellent gathering conducted by the Hast Mounts Union.
New Holland traveled to Gap on July 4 for a two game set. In the morning, New Holland won 4 to 2 as pitcher Tuffy Kochel allowed only three hits. The afternoon game was stopped after the second inning due to rain with New Holland leading 6 to 0.
The New Holland team travels to Morgantown this Saturday afternoon for an 8 15 start. After a recent win over Berks County they bring a strengthened lineup hoping to make it two straight over the cont end tossers. Fans are urged to attend.
Residents celebrated the holiday with fireworks and noise during the first three days of the week. The celebration was orderly and no accidents or injuries were reported.
The Ephrata American Legion July Fourth celebration closing fireworks show was postponed by heavy rains. The event will resume Saturday with the pyrotechnic display as the final act in the evening.
A parade of Philadelphia residents and relatives visit Lancaster. Names include Mr and Mrs Dudley Boy of Philadelphia with daughters Margaret and Jane, Miss Martha Bowers of Wooster Mass visiting H. Bowers, Anna Wentz and son, and many others spending time with local households and relatives in town.
Warren G Hoopes of West Grove Pa, president of the Chester County Sabbath School Association, is chosen secretary of the Pennsylvania State Christian Endeavor Union. The appointment, unanimous, will be ratified at the Bethlehem State Convention July 9 to 13. He previously led the state group and is well known in Lancaster County for C E activity.
Several cases of typhoid fever have been reported in various sections of town in recent days. An investigation will be conducted to determine the source and warn citizens.
