He served East Earl township as tax collector thirty seven years and held roles as assessor, constable, and justice of the peace for twenty three years. A founder of Earl Mutual Fire and Storm Insurance Co. in 1838, he directed the firm the past twenty years and helped establish creameries in Blue Ball and Gap in 1872. He gained fame for continuing work after seventy, including eight years as a State Highway Department foreman. Survived by five children, fifteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren. wife Lizzie Drybread preceded him in death. Funeral from Blue Ball home then Weaverland Mennonite church. Interment in nearby cemetery.
