New Holland Rotary Club met Monday with President Ivan A. Shirk presiding. Rev Chester B Starr gave the invocation and Clair Musselman led singing. Clarence B Mellinger spoke on coin collecting and Edward C Weaver reported on the club magazine. The club voted to tour Frank Ix and Sons Silk Mill soon. Visiting Rotarians included Earl C G Albright and E R Smedley from Columbia, Robert Romig from Downingtown, Ralph Myers from Turtle Creek, Clyde Hendricks and Grabill Bitzer from Lititz, Ed McCausland of Downingtown was a guest. Next week’s meeting was canceled for the holiday.

World War II veteran Harold Plank earns Penn State degree
Edward Harold Plank, son of Mr and Mrs A W Plank of East Main Street, received his B A in Wood Utilization from Penn State this June. An honor student at New Holland High School class of 1989, he held multiple campus roles and was president of Alpha Eta Fraternity. Plank served as a B 17 navigator in the U S Army Air Corps, was a POW in Germany for one year, and spent two years overseas. He now works for West End Lumber Co of Chester.

Caernarvon Detective Association Adapts to Auto Theft Era
Caernarvon Association for Detecting Thieves and Recovering Stolen Property, formed 95 years ago to hunt horse thieves, now pays members for auto parts losses and burglaries. The Caernarvon Detection Association, based in Churchtown and Caernarvon Township, lists John A. Styer as president and Robert E. Simpson as vice president. The group, among the oldest of its kind in Eastern Pennsylvania since 1853, holds annual meetings. this year they reimbursed Barton Hurst for a stolen spare wheel from his auto at the New Holland Farm Show last fall.

The New Holland Carnival Association will present the New Holland Victory Band as the main attraction at Community Park Saturday night July 8.
