Obituaries report the death of Barbara Smoker at 93 after a long illness, with services at Carpenter’s church and burial at a nearby cemetery. Additional brief notices mention Mrs. Mary H Caul of Mohnton aged 52, and Elmira Roger Mra widow of Rogety, with funeral details and interment at Zeltenreich’s cemetery.
David L. Huber of Landis Valley and Lillie B. Landis of Landis Valley were united in marriage by Bishop Nash L. Landis at his Neffsville residence Tuesday morning at 10 o clock. The couple, about twenty guests present, will reside in Downingtown where the groom works at the Downingtown Tron Works. They left for Washington, D. C. and other points on a wedding trip and will be at home after April 1 at Landis Valley where the groom farms.
The first count since 1918 shows the national government's vaults hold a grand total of 19.8838 billion dollars in cash and securities. About 97.41 million in cash is counted separately with the rest for Treasury indebtedness. The note references a resignation of Treasurer John Burke and a receipt to be sent by Mr. Allen for over 18 billion dollars.

The Farmers Institute under the Department of Culture of Pennsylvania will be held in coop eration with the Farm Bureau of Lancaster County and the State Department. Fred Rasmussen secretary provides leading speakers with no attendance fee. Afternoon session begins 1 30 with invocat ion by Rev I B Good and talks on lime use and rural schools. Evening session at 7 features an address Essentials for Success with Miss Catherine, readings by Edna Coffroad, and talks on stock improvement and rural teaching. County Chairman M P Haverstick closes the program. Attendance hoped for both sessions.
The report notes a tobacco crop in Lititz township with 4 552 pounds of wrappers yielding 25 cents to Mr Grockley and 517 pounds of fillers at 7 cents. The cash return for wrappers is $1138 and $36 19 for fillers, totaling $1174 19 for two acres about $450 per acre.
A spelling bee will be held at Wenger's School house East Earl township with Miss M Gracb Shirk as teacher on Friday evening February 11 at 7 30. There will be two spelling classes one for 12 years old and under the other open to all plus a general information class. Dialogues recitations and music will be provided. If weather is unfavourable the bee will move to the following Tuesday evening.
The Hollan District Teachers Institute begins with a morning session at 9 45 in the school building featuring music devotional service by Rev C R Longenecker and a Round Table Conference led by Miss Erust and Prof B F Gaige of Millersville State Normal School. An executive session will appoint committees and the afternoon session moves to Beareale Theatre for further activities.
Lancaster County tobacco growers dominated the State Farm Products Show at Harrisburg winning top prizes in Havana tobacco. Judges awarded prizes Tuesday as Lock Haven district growers also gained honors. Thousands of farmers toured the Harrisburg exhibit, impressed by the county’s superior displays.
By will Dr S A Zell of this borough leaves one hundred dollars to Bergstraße Lutheran Cemetery to keep the Piersol Zell graves in good condition. The Bethany Episcopal Methodist Church Graveyard in Fulton Township where his father a Methodist minister and his siblings are buried also receives one hundred dollars for maintaining relatives graves in good condition.
Mrs. Margaret Pickell, 50, near Steelsville from Nine Points store, died at 4 30 pm after a stroke of apoplexy while driving alone Monday afternoon. She was found by William Dunkle and aided by Henry Frantz before transport to her home. Survived by husband Elmer B Pickell two children Charles Newswarger and Anna and her father Martin Girvin.
A large barn near Willow Street was destroyed by fire with a loss estimated at several thousand dollars. Fire crews contained the blaze, with no injuries reported. Investigators examine the scene for the cause.
Christian S. Jacoby aged 68 longtime Reamstown public school teacher died suddenly at 1 a.m. in Reamstown. He taught 51 years starting his term this year with the 5th and 6th grades. He served as deacon and Sunday school leader in the Reformed church and held several fraternal memberships. Survived by wife Savilla Lausch, two daughters, one brother and two sisters, four grandchildren. Funeral Monday at 10 a.m. from his home. interment Peter Hill Cemetery Ephrata.
A Honey Brook man, B F Diterline, a well driller, fractured his left leg when struck by a large rock while at a limestone quarry. He was taken to Lancaster General Hospital where the injuries were dressed and an X ray was taken next day.
Dr. Thomas G. Binkley 56 former Blainsport resident died when his car was struck by a freight engine at a crossing near Sinking Spring on Monday morning. Passenger Elias Keibach escaped injury. Binkley, returning from a call, and his companion were thrown clear. He left a widow Margaret nee Thierwether and two daughters Helen and Minerva.
Earl Sandoc, an employee at Wright's bakery, drove up an alley toward Main street when another car passed. He stopped, then failed to observe a trolley car starting from the post office. The trolley struck his auto, jamming the front fender in the trolley fender and requiring lifting to separate the vehicles.
Harry Pfeffer George Kissinger and George Troop of Lancaster were arrested Sunday afternoon on a charge of robbing the George Brenner store on Manor street. Goods valued at 287 dollars and 80 cents were taken. The trio admitted loading items on an auto truck and selling them in Violet Hill York County before being captured in Lancaster. Two others, John Myers and Carl Kissinger, were later arrested and jailed.
A. O. Sheaffer of this borough recently slaughtered a hog for his brother Adam that dressed 660 pounds, the heaviest reported locally so far. The question now is who can beat it.
Real estate agent V D Kling of Intercourse sold a seven acre Compass Chester Grant property at Compass to Elam Grube of Salisbury Lancaster County. Mrs Grube plans to move there around April 1.
Miss Annabelle Noss of 144 East Main Street has been elected one of the literary editors of the Linmarada, Mount Holyoke College annual brought out by the seniors in South Hadley Massachusetts.

The Mennonite service at the Methodist church announced a members meeting for Monday January 31 but, due to a Methodist meeting that same evening, the Mennonites will now meet Tuesday February 1. Congregation members are urged to attend as important matters will be discussed.
