Injured in Action Whose Wife Receives Telegram

A wife in Ephrata received a Washington telegram stating her husband was injured in action in the European theatre. An Army letter later said Lester was in a hospital receiving the best care. Letters from T Sgt Wagner reported he is recovering from shock and other injuries after surviving a bomber flight as crew chief.

Machine Company Employees Reject CIO Leadership

Eligible workers at the New Holland Machine Company voted against United Steelworkers of America CIO representation in the plant election held yesterday. Management received a stronger vote of confidence, while 17 ballots were challenged and 10 employees did not vote.

New Holland Seeks Community Ambulance Fund

New Holland begins a two week drive from January 27 to February 10 to fund a Community Ambulance. Volunteers will solicit at Farmers National Bank and Trust Company during banking hours and donations can be placed in two nearby banks Blue Ball National Bank and First National Bank of Intercourse. Progress is charted in the window of Pennsylvania Power and Light showing an ambulance climbing toward a $5,000 goal.

Mrs Huber dies in East Earl after pneumonia

Mrs John C Huber 64 died Tuesday at her East Earl home from pneumonia. She was the daughter of the late Martin and Lydia Martin. Survived by husband John Q and children Katie Mary Phares Eli Alice Anna John O Jr Lydia Henry and others. thirty four grandchildren. Memorial services held Saturday at Weaverland Mennonite church with interment in the adjoining cemetery. Friends may call Friday evening.

Evangelistic Meetings Draw Large Local Attendance

Hundreds of residents and neighbors attend nightly evangelistic services at the United Brethren Church led by Rev. Albert Peterson of Newton Iowa. Peterson directs singing and the chorus, presents messages, and features special music.
