The New Holland Baby Beef Club began with thirty one members receiving thirty five steers from a Colorado carload. Steers averaged 642 pounds and were assigned to youths by license. Club sponsorship comes from the New Holland Lions Club with plans to exhibit at the New Holland Farmers Day show and then sell.

More than $9,000 damage occurred when a barn on Martin Hoover’s farm near Brownstown burned after a suspected short circuit. The blaze also damaged two houses as neighbor Elam Witmer reported a transformer fault feeding both properties. Firefighters from six towns saved livestock and nearby crops while extinguishing the fires.

Mrs Annie M Martin aged 79 died at 3 30 am Wednesday at her son David Zs East Earl home after months of illness. She was a Weaverland Mennonite. Survived by sons daughters and spouses including Maria Weaver Anna Shirk John Samuel Z and Lizzie Weaver plus siblings and a large family total 35 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral 1 30 pm Saturday at Davids home and 2 pm at Weaverland Mennonite Church with interment nearby.

Mrs Harriet L Sheaffer eighty six widow of Solomon Sheaffer of Bareville died at her home at 745 p.m. Tuesday after a fall last week that caused a broken hip. She was a Stumptown Mennonite church member, daughter of the late Solomon and Suzanna Eby Groff. Survived by daughter Minnie L Sheaffer at home two brothers Wayne I Groff Leacock and Abram Groff Lancaster and sister Mrs Annie Sprecher Talmo. Services at 130 p.m. at home then 2 p.m. at Zeltenreich Reformed church with interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Firemen Save Farm House Near Brownstown From Blaze
Firefighters from Bareville under Noah H Groff and crews from Akron and Mechanicsburg saved the home of John N Martin near Brownstown yesterday morning as a summer kitchen burned. The loss was estimated at 1000 dollars. A portion used for butchering apparently ignited by sparks and smoldered before bursting into flame at about 1 60 in the morning. The building contained lard and fresh meat lost in the fire. Martin, a local farmer, did butchering for neighbors.

Martindale intruder held on surety of the peace charge
Thomas Houston, an itinerant sign painter and tinker, was jailed in default of $1,000 bail after a hearing before Justice of the Peace David H. Styer on a surety of the peace charge.
