Lester C. Styer son of Mr and Mrs George W Sty er of Churchtown has been promoted to Seaman First Class. His ship earned a presidential citation for action in the Atlantic Ocean and he entered service February 18 1944 serving in various Atlantic theaters.
Snow and ice did not hinder a county effort to enlarge St Joseph's Hospital of Lancaster as Area 6 reports district receipts. Totals show New Holland $7485 Earl Township $1921 Upper Leacock $932 East Earl $25 Salisbury $736 Leacock $1155 Terre Hill $50 Caernarvon $125 Paradise $487 East Lampeter $2618, with county-wide gifts reaching $622,320 toward a $695,000 goal. A detailed area statement will run next week.
A song service will be held at the Hinkletown Mennonite Church this Saturday evening at 7 30. Barton Lehman of Bowmanasyville and John Lehman of Blue Ball will lead the program. Daniel Weaver of Blue Ball will give a short talk.
The Clarion begins a series on Iranian history transcribed by Sgt Titus M Summers of New Holland and Goodville. He notes Iran’s five thousand year history and contrasts ancient farming life with early civilizations along the rivers and the Fertile Crescent.
The Intermediate Girl Scouts plan an investiture ceremony Monday at 7 30 p m in the Lutheran Parish House. Seven girls who passed tender foot requirements will become Girl Scouts with Mrs Robby Evans in charge. Assistants include Mrs Alvin Danner Peggy Kurtz and Nancy Ambler. Rotary Club member Carl Driscoll will present badges. The meeting features a fashion show musical selections and refreshments. Mothers and friends are invited.
The Well Baby Center meets the first Wednesday monthly at the New Holland American Legion Home. Diphtheria Tetanus shots for prevention will be given monthly by Drs. P. R. Wentz A. E. Martin and Harold Stauffer who rotate duties. Mary E Blough RN announced the center will also be held the first week of February.

Frank Y. Keath aged 68 of Elstonville died at 3 45 a m Saturday after a two year illness. He ran a general store for many years and was a Penryn Reformed Church member. Survived by wife Alice Steffy Keath and children Mrs Horace Sturgis Mrs Omar Will Cloyd R Keath and Mrs Irvin White all of Elstonville plus four grandchildren one great grandchild a brother and two sisters A Y Keath New Holland Mrs Jacob Kauffman and Mrs Ella Marks Lititz. Funeral from Keech Funeral Parlor Manheim at 1 30 p m Tuesday and 2 p m at Penryn Reformed Church with interment in adjoining cemetery.
Sally S Good two month old daughter of Norman M and Mary Hurst Good of Denver R 1 died at home Sunday evening of infant trouble. Survived by parents a brother Leonard R sister Norma Joan maternal grandparents Jacob Hurst Narvon R 1 paternal grandparents William Good Denver R 1 and Mary Ann Burkhart Goodville great grandmother. Funeral from Denver home Tuesday at 1 30 with service Pine Grove Mennonite church Bowmansville at 2 Interment in adjoining cemetery.
Mrs Rebecca Anna Neff Lefever eighty two widow of John B Lefever died at her home 488 East Chestnut Street Lancaster at 1 am Tuesday after a lingering illness She was a daughter of the late Emanuel and Catherine Aby Neff and a member of St Pauls Reformed church She is survived by two children Roy Neff Lefever and Stella M Lefever both of Lancaster one grandson and brothers and sisters Harry Lincoln Highway East Christ Paradise Mary wife of Geo Rohrer Lancaster R 5 John of Leacock and Catherine wife of Christ Huber Willow Street Funeral services were held Thursday from the late home at 2 oclock Interment was made in the Mennonite cemetery

The annual I. C. O. F. Banquet will be held Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Lutheran Parish House. Attendees are urged to mail return cards promptly. Entertainment is arranged through the Nunemaker Artist Bureau of Reading and promises to be a treat for guests.

John Jay Shank of Waynesboro will make his official Rotary visit to the New Holland Rotary Club on Monday January 29 as governor of the 180th district. Shank, director of Wayne Laboratories, was elected at the 1944 Chicago convention and leads one of 140 Rotary governors overseeing 5230 clubs in 50 countries. President Groff notes wartime growth with 59 new clubs since July across the Americas and other nations.

Senior Scout Troop of New Holland celebrated its fourth anniversary at April Lammey's home last Monday. Refreshments followed the Scout promise. Jaws and taps were noted. The next meeting will be in two weeks at Dolly Groff's home.
Rev Henry R. Bauers of Memorial Methodist Church Leola and New Holland Methodist Church returned home Wednesday after a nine day stay at Lancaster General Hospital for observation. He is confined to his home for the present.
Parents of eligible boys are urged to attend the New Holland Cub Committee meeting Monday January 29 at 730 pm at the Boy Scout Home. Chief C W Armstrong and assistant will aid in forming the Pack with Luther Oxenreider introducing the speaker. Members of the Cub Committee include Musselman Danner Lammey Randon Irons.
I C O F Earl Lodge 413 in New Holland will confer the third degree in full ceremonial form on a class this Friday evening. Lodge opens at 7 30 p m. All members urged to attend and aid with degree work. Refreshments will be served.
Ambulance service for New Hol land and surrounding community is now ready fully equipped and manned to answer all calls. Under George S. Good voluntary drivers will be on call twenty four hours with nurses joining the staff. Calls to the Ambulance will be received at the Enterprise Telephone.
Eliza S. Paine executive director of the Lancaster branch spoke to the Lions Club at the Legion Home dinner on Tuesday about Lions cooperation with the Blind Association. W. H. Gainer presided and P. F. Eschenhade reported ambulance costs totaling just over 1900 dollars with a full cost report to follow. Present guest service men were F. Lacey Wright and Charles Laukhoff. visitors included George S. Good and John H. Martin.
The Business and Professional Women's Club met at Virginia Hoffman's home with Ruth Witman presiding. Members completed an afghan for the Red Cross, donated to the March of Dimes, and planned to support the Chinese Nursing Project. A February 5 meeting will be at Virginia Renninger's home.
