Lydia Shirk sixty nine died at her home one mile north of New Holland on Thursday noon after a week long illness from pneumonia. She was a Mennonite Church member. Survived by husband Seph T. Shirk and many children grandchildren and a brother. Funeral services held at home then Weaverland Mennonite church with burial in the adjacent cemetery.
Esther Theresa Miller aged 74 died suddenly at her Churchtown home on Thursday morning at 6 45 due to paralysis. She leaves one sister Mary Ann Cox. The two sisters had lived together for years. She was a member of Churchtown Methodist Episcopal Church. Private service was held at 1 30 Monday at the home and public service followed at 1 45 at the Churchtown church. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.
Frank Davis aged thirty five died at his parents home 1521 North 58th street West Philadelphia on Sunday evening January 19 from complications of diseases. He once worked as a clerk in Harvey Zimmerman Real Estate office. Survived by wife Maude Greenberger and two children. funeral Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church with burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Adam N Hoover three year old son of Mr and Mrs Harvey Hoover of East Earl R D 2 died Tuesday at home from convulsions. Survived by brothers and sisters Joseph Ella Lena Lizzie Martin and Isaac all at home. Funeral held at home and then Weaveland Mennonite church with burial in adjoining cemetery.

After seventy years the Earls and Caernarvon area will elect a native son to Congress to succeed the late W. W. Griest. J. The tenth anniversary of Prohibition was celebrated with a special service in the United Brethren Church in the borough under the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union. Ministers attended and Rev. F. C. Atuungst gave an address quoting Hoover on enforcing laws. The talk praised prohibition’s benefits and referenced financial, educational, and governance arguments, contrasting wet opposition with pro prohibition views.
A spelling bee will be held at Blue Ball Fire Hall Friday evening January 31 at 7 30 o clock under District No 12 Lancaster County Sunday School Association for the Daily Vacation Bible School program. Two spelling classes and one information class offer three prizes each. A program of music drills dialogue and aont caonoblogues will be presented by Terre Hill and Greenbank pupils. Admission 15 and 12 cents with church duty selling. A second bee is planned Friday February 2 at Goodville Fire Hall with more details to follow.
The Senior and Junior Christian Endeavor Societies of the United Brethren Church plan a joint meeting Sunday evening in the church basement. Laura Oehme, a missionary to China for 21 years, will speak about her missionary experiences in a Chinese teacher costume. Mrs. Elijah Mellinger led the last session, which drew a large crowd.
Benjamin H. Shenk 23 of Ephrata an Armstrong Cork Company employe died in a tractor accident on a roadway at the linoleum plant in Lancaster. Dr. E H Witmer deputy coroner ruled death accidental from a broken neck after he fell from the seat and landed on hard paving.
Mrs E C Diller hosted a meeting with Mrs Boller reading the 100th Psalm and Miss Annie Boyer leading prayer. Members answered roll call with sentiments as Mrs Sensenty and Mrs Roland read essays. Lessons in Citizenship were conducted by Mrs Rutter and others.

E G Stauffer and daughters hosted J C Martin at Terre Hill. Elizabeth Zercher of Lancaster and Raymond Reifsnyder of Terre Hill met Sue Shirk Wednesday. Annie Fox held a quilting party with Mrs Cyrus Bowers, Mrs Harry Sensenig, Arlene, and others in Bareville.
Nearly sixty men from eight fire companies in the Lancaster area enroll in Red Cross first aid classes led by Dr. Barlow of Armstrong Cork. The third lesson featured a detailed talk on bones, and the cohort includes members from Longstown, Ball Hill, Goodville, Leola, Liberty, Mechanicsburg, Terre Hill and more under the Lancaster Chapter and county branches. The next session is scheduled for January 27 in the Farmers National Bank basement.
