New Holland high juniors select a standardized ring design directed by Ruth Freyberger art supervisor. The sunken top features the school seal and a lion figure with a bordered clock and book motif. Rings will arrive by January 26.
Misses Dorothy Detterline and Charlotte Sweigart of New Holland host Westminster Guild Circle Saturday January 7 at 2 o’clock at Miss Detterline’s home in this borough. Roll call will be taken from the first six chapters of Hebrews. All girls interested are invited. Small gifts will be exchanged.
Holy Communion will be observed Sunday morning January 15 at Trinity Lutheran church. Dr J C Nicholas of Landisville will have charge of the service. The installation of newly elected officers will take place during this service.
Loyal Workers' Circle of the King's Daughters will meet at Mrs. Sidney Transon's home Tuesday evening at 7 30. A report of the holiday activities will be presented.
Local New Holland area students resume study after holidays. Elizabeth Groff returns to State College as a junior in Commerce and Finance. Betsy Yost, Eli Martin, John Ressler, Richard Burkart, Lester Katz also back at Penn State and nearby colleges. Other returnees include Eloise Bachman at West Chester, Kathryn Zwally and Wrights at Lebanon Valley, Wentz siblings at Penn, Seldomridge, Witmer, Levitt, Plotnick at various institutions. Lancaster Business College attendees include Ressler, Mentzer, Beichler, Reynolds, Shirk, with Lowry at Lancaster night school.
New Holland Borough Council met with all members present to appoint a burgess for the Mentzer vacancy being deferred to the next meeting. The financial committee and Secretary of Council were instructed to prepare the proposed borough budget for presentation at the January 13 meeting.
William Zerbe eighty one died 10 16 p m Sunday at his son Theodore’s home near Bowmansville after infirmities. Survived by wife Susan Brendle Zerbe who died six days earlier and ten children in Mohnton Reading Philadelphia and Bowmansville. Funeral at Theodore Zerbe home 1 30 p m and Alleghenyville church 2 p m with burial in nearby cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry R. Snader of near New Holland entertained at a family dinner at their home on Sunday. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Robert Evans of Narvon Mr. and Mrs. Samuel J. Harsh of Bareville Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kurtz of New Holland Mary E. Snader Roland K. Snader Richard Snader and Harry C. Snader of near New Holland and J. Roger Miller of Bareville.
The Ladies' Auxiliary of the Salisbury Fire Company will stage a card party on Saturday January 7 at 8 15 p m in the White Horse Fire Hall.

The Mysterious Sisters of the Gleaners' Class at the M E church held their annual banquet Tuesday evening at Dick Dommell's restaurant with a chicken dinner. Officers installed were President Mrs. Harvey Shue, Vice President Mrs. Reid Sterling, Secretary Mrs. Harold Kendig, Treasurer Miss Virginia Hoffman.
Poultrymen urged to bring poultry for the next sale on Tuesday. A large buyer consumes 38,000 pounds weekly. The Egg Auction resumes Tuesday January 31 at 10 a m with the poultry sale at noon. Auctions will continue every Tuesday thereafter.

Rev John Lauder officiated with attendants Miss Anna E Horst David Hoover Mother Martin and Raymond Hornung. Reception for about fifty guests followed at the bride’s parents home.
Martin-Mealy couple Lulu Grace Mealy and John H. Martin wed at Shippenville on December 21. Rev. Samuel Allaman officiated at his home. Bride and groom have local schooling and work in construction. plan to reside in Shippenville.
At a parish meeting in the Parish House officers were elected including E T Trust ee E S Renninger and J Herbert Evans as Trustees Isaac W Weber as Elder Howard Steinman as Deacon Mrs Carl Stoeckl as Organist Maria Bender Elizabeth Yost as Assistant Organist Stanley Detterline as Sexton Jacob Kauffman as Superintendent of Cemetery Plans to fund raise to liquidate Parish House debt organized adult and junior choirs and Luther League Vestry reorganized with Paul F Esbenshade Vice President George S Townsley Secretary Emory Witwer Treasurer Ivo Brenneman Benevolence Treasurer and Richard Overly Financial Secretary.
An unusual Week of Prayer service will be held Sunday evening at 7 30 in the United Brethren church under the direction of the young people. The prayer service will be illustrated with colored slides depicting scenes from the life of Jesus Christ and lessons for modern Christians. The service is part of a series sponsored by the Young People's Christian Endeavor Society, alternating between morning and evening each Sunday.
In New Holland United Brethren Church the service is scheduled for Sunday morning at 10:15 o'clock.

Trustees were elected at a congregational meeting held on a Saturday evening at the Bridgeville Evangelical Congregational church. Grants Eby serves one year, William S Eby two years, and H E Boley four years. Pianist is Mrs Robert Burkhart with assistants Mrs Wilmer Rutt Elsie Keenan Dorothy Stover and Jane Horst.
Mt Airy Seminary student Henry E. Schlotzhauer will be guest preacher at Trinity Lutheran Church in Germantown Philadelphia on Sunday morning.
The American Legion Auxiliary of New Holland held a meeting Tuesday evening with reports on Christmas work and hospital donations. Gifts were given to local war orphans, clothing baskets sent to needy families, and the sympathy committee sent fruit to the sick. Plans were made to start the Blanket Club and begin a candy shipment in January.
Mrs. Kirk Foulke hosted the Open Door class of St Stephen Reformed Sunday School on a Tuesday evening. Devotions were led by Mrs Elsie Walters and Mrs C C Warner. Attendees included Mrs M Wassman Mrs Irwin Weaver Mrs Norman Eby Mrs Clyde Brack Miss Elizabeth Must Miss Missouri Varns and several others.
Dr. Ellis H. Metford of this borough will attend the Anentown meeting of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Clinical Society on Sunday. The main topic is Dr. Joseph Root of North Philadelphia Osteopathic Hospital on the diagnostic value of electrocardiography in heart diseases. Miss Sara Moyer of State College visited Mr. and Mrs. John M. Burkhart during the holiday.
