Fire razes pavilion. firm to lease nearby center

Nicholas Zurich and Herman J. Simms of the Lancaster Barracks Firemen led nine county companies against a blaze that leveled the pavilion. Firefighters saved adjacent property. William A. Frew, firm president since 1980, will lease the Lincoln Highway pavilion and convert it into a distribution center near Paradise.

Nominee Named Controller at New Holland Machine Co

George C. Delp announced this week that Nelson will fill the controller role at New Holland Machine Company, a position previously held by Ralph Weber who was promoted to controller in 1946. Nelson is to wear the American Theatre Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon, and Victory Medal.

Wagon Hit by Car Injures Church Traveler in Lancaster County

Enos Weaver 35 of Eph rata R2 sustained fractures to the collar bone right knee and ribs when a horse drawn wagon he rode in en route to church was smashed by an auto near Hinkletown at 8 am Sunday. He was taken to Lancaster General Hospital. The wagon was driven by Rev Peter Weaver 66 pastor of Pike Mennonite Church and father of the injured man. Dr Henry Heisey of Quentin Lebanon who drove the auto said he was blinded by the sun.

Reading pa bi centennial remarks heard on Radio

The Reading Pennsylvania bi centennial celebration was opened with remarks from the Mayor of Reading England. Radio listeners in the area heard the congratulatory message praising a nearby city with an estimated 250 000 residents. The event was announced in the Clarion and continues throughout the year.

Conestoga Valley Airport Wins National Service Award

Pennsylvania Secretary of Commerce Orus J. Matthews announced the Conestoga Valley Airport received the National Aeronautic Association award for good service. Only 50 of 205 airports were cited this year, with Charles N. Butler Jr. of Glen Mills operating the airport and the Conestoga Valley Aeronautic Club initiating the project.
