A Christmas blizzard drops about fifteen inches of snow, creating deep drifts and impassable roads. Trains and mail service halt, but townspeople shovel out and resume limited trolley runs by Tuesday, as several residents endure difficult travel and disrupted schedules.

John H. Darrow died of heart failure at 57 while visiting a Brooklyn friend. He was born in New Holland and built a horse trade in Lancaster County before moving to Brooklyn in 1902. Survived by three children and siblings, with a funeral held in this borough. Charlotte Weaver of Terre Hill died at 74 in Reading after a visit, survived by children and siblings. John Eckenrode, 64, died of liver cancer near Retten's mill in Ephrata Township. funeral and interment at Akron.
The U B Sunday school announces its programme set for Sunday evening January 2 at 7 o clock. A beautiful and well prepared programme awaits attendees and gifts to the school will be distributed Sunday morning. If January 2 is unfavorable the program will be held on the first favorable evening after the 2nd.
Krauss and Spangler who have run moving pictures for three years at Ephrata will open in Hess Hall next Tuesday evening January 4 with the best and latest pictures. Their machine carries a fire proof booth and they guarantee everything gate and right. They have engaged the hall for every Tuesday and Thursday evening for the balance of the season. Messrs Krause and Spangler are gentlemen well known to many here and their productions should be well patronized as they are in their home town where they exhibit four nights a week.

A large Lancaster County audience gathered at the courthouse to hear D Ward King promote his king split log drag as a cheaper road improvement. Mayor J P McCuskey and railroad officials discussed road safety and economic benefits of better roads for farmers and markets.
The Amsterdam school in Earl Township held its annual Christmas anniversary last Friday. Pupils recited appropriate pieces and sang solos and Christmas songs. A large Christmas tree, decorated with colored festooning, stood at the center with candy and an orange given by a tiny Santa Claus after a pupil presented her wish. Teacher H. M. Hoffman extends thanks and wishes a Happy New Year.
On Wednesday afternoon about Bb o'clock L D Glowner and M R B Latz, employees of the Citation, discovered fire in Slope's smithshop across several lots from the rear of the office. They alarmed others, forced an entrance, and found boards on the west side burning furiously. Quick action by willing hands extinguished the blaze with water from the main tub, likely saving the shop and neighboring property from total destruction.
On Wednesday auctioneer ML We Tarlo failed to sell the personal effects of the estate at auction. The attempt drew limited bidding with no final sale reached.
