A long handwritten page features letters sent to Santa Claus from many children in New Holland, Blue Ball, and surrounding areas. The kids request dolls, drums, sleds, horses, outfits, books, candy, oranges, nuts, and small toys, with some notes of age and hometown.
A sequence of weddings is reported around Gordonville and neighboring townships. Aaron Beller wed Katie Lapp with about 100 guests. Amos Garman and Ida Burkholder tied the knot at Reamstown Lutheran parsonage. Rebecca Esb and Jonathan Stoltzfus wed near Gordonville. Jobin Nolt and Emma Martin joined in Reide. Johan Ehmarl and Ada Martin wed at Ammiston.
Fifty members of St Stephen Reformed and Zeltenreth Churches gathered at Wm M Stauffer’s home to surprise Rev J Noss with gifts to replenish his larder. A purse was given and the Wogansville charge will send in contributions before Christmas.
A clipped entry lists jurors drawn to serve in the January term from local territory. Names include farmers, carpenters, and other residents such as Wallace and Earl Qivler. The census notes the grand jurors selected for the session.
Adam Overly of East Main Street fell while climbing a wire fence in his stable yard and dislocated his left shoulder blade. Dr J L B Kohler treated him. at seventy he is getting along fairly well but remains quite sore from the accident.
In Lancaster the Republican primary for mayor is two weeks away with Prof. J.P. McCaskey, a longtime boy's high school friend, seen as the strongest contender and said to have GOP endorsement. McCaskey would reach fifty years of service in the schools.
Following the dissolution of the Hass and Rutter partnership the store will close on January 1 2 and reopen for business on Thursday January 4 under the ownership of He E Rutter.
