Lancaster firemen urged to enroll in August Institute at McCaskey High School Auditorium. Nationally known teachers will lead classes for chiefs assistants drivers pump operators and rank and file firemen with wives invited to the meeting on August 27 at 7 45 p m.
Birthday party was held on a lawn at the home of Mrs. Non eat Krouse to honor the 12th birthday of Mary Low. Guests included Bobby Baraca Koti Simmpoate Mary Lou N. Sambar Billy Non nenmache and Mrs Benjamin F. Rowbatham among others.

The New Holland Machine Co employees enjoyed a pool picnic with the Victory Band leading activities. Winners included Carl McGinnis Melvin Mitchell Maribelle McGinnis Joan Cox and more in events like three legged race egg balance and figure contests. A prize war bond was awarded to C Sagowitz for guessing nearest the serial number on an old dollar note.
The New Holland Building and Loan Association reports period ending July 31, 1943 with $90,609.18. The twenty fifth stock series matures paying $202.81 per share, seven percent interest. The forty ninth series is open for subscription, applications through secretary or officers.
Vacation Bible School at Bareville Church is led by Miss Min nia Myer with Mildred Myer Lena Martin and Margaret Ebersole assisting. Edith 3 BB and Verda Myer serve as secretary and treasurer respectively with Jacob Ebersole and Melvin Ebersole as assistants.
Reverend Fred D. Pentz of the Salem Reformed Church reported to State Police that two heavy chains used to secure posts on the church parking and cemetery grounds were stolen early last week. The theft was discovered by Aaron Cunningham, the church sexton. Officials vowed to tear them loose and pursue the culprit.
Mrs Eloise Lucille Kutz age twenty five wife of Lester W Kutz formerly of Blue Ball and now of Schenectady New York died at 7 am Tuesday in St Josephs Hospital of nephritis She was a New Holland High School graduate 1936 West Chester State Teachers College and a music teacher before her marriage in 1942 Her survivors include husband parents one brother Corporal James Bachman and grandmother Bertha Smith Funeral from her parents home Saturday at 2 45 pm with services at St Stephens Reformed Church Zeltenreich Cemetery interment Friday call 7 to 9 pm.

The Earl Township School Board announces the new school year begins Monday September 13. Changes in staff include Irene Lutz of Ephrata teaching Crossroads school and William Miller of New Holland R2 directing Center school. One vacancy remains at Voganville school.
A bolt of lightning damaged the electrical panel and started a fire in the Noah W. Weaver Tobacco Warehouse in the borough. The blaze damaged the panel board and flooring in the basement where 2000 cases of tobacco were stored. A sprinkler head activated by the fire helped control the flames until Liberty Company firemen arrived after a call from night watchman Samuel A. Shirk at the New Holland Machine Company. The building damage was slight.
Mrs Lillian Gainer aged 8 died at her home on Tuesday in Marietta. A member of Boehm's Methodist Church on Willow Street she is survived by children Sylvester and Bessie married to Ira Barnhart of Elizabeth town Grace married to Benjamin Boltz of Maytown Allen and Eva married to Charles Hippénsteel both of Eliz Anneary Hanover Whyett of Janey Bainbridge and several others.
The body of Mrs. Mary Lockhard Canan was found in her secluded Atglen home on Sunday. Officials say no foul play is evident after a foster son noted four months of unmoved mail. About $5,000 in cash was found. no near relatives survive.
Lt Doris Rowbotham of Leola continues her diary from 1943 in India. She notes receiving a May letter, a pleasant walk before duty, and a picturesque Indian wedding procession along railroad tracks behind their bashas.
The Y. C. W. Class of Ranck's United Brethren Church School held a Splash Party and doggie roast Tuesday at the New Holland Swimming Pool. Attendees listed include Ethel Brubaker, Lois Ranck, Helen Frank, Myrtle Frank, Mary Shirk, Evelyn Sandoe, Dorothy Houck, and others. Games were played and enjoyed by all.
The Pequea Valley 4-H Club held a combined meeting and doggie roast on August 17 at Ira Warner's Honey Brook home. Sixteen members attended with Junior local leaders and Assistant County Agent M. M. Smith. The next meeting is planned for Ruth and Helen Moore in Kinzer on September 28.
Martin, an electrician from Blue Ball, reported to police that a volt meter valued at 189 dollars was taken from his automobile parked in Lancaster City last Thursday.
The Akron borough school board announced the high school will close for the duration of the war due to a lack of teachers. Thirty-nine students will attend Ephrata High School starting September 7, with transportation arranged. Principal Lloyd H. Roland and Miss Dorothea Smith are among staff changes as the Akron school faces possible permanent closure.

The afternoon Family Fellowship at Zeltenreich Reformed Church scheduled for Sunday August 22 is postponed to a date to be announced later. The regular worship service and Sunday School will proceed at the usual times this Sunday.
The Eagle and the Pirate hard ball teams will play ball on the school grounds with the consent of the softball league officials on each Thursday evening. These youths invite spectators.
Dr C Howard Witmer will speak at the Lions Club dinner in the Legion Home at 6 30 p m on August 24. He explains the Lancaster County United Drive and has long led welfare efforts including the Tuberculosis Society and Rossmere Sanatorium. The program includes marimba by Helen Dougherty and soloists James Reifsnyder.
The New Holland Young Men's Business League welcomed two new members, Ivan P. Lowry of New Holland and Ivan Witwer of Blue Ball, at a dinner meeting attended by thirty-five. President J. Frank Lammey led the session at the Lutheran Parish House and announced a family picnic planned for Tuesday August 31 with details to follow. Entertainment featured James Reifsnyder and David Glasmire with accompanists Mrs. Earl Palmer and Mrs. Carl Stoeckl.
The I C O F picnic will be at the New Holland Community Swimming Pool on Friday August 27 starting at 4 00 p m. Attendees will meet at the picnic grounds with games for all from 5 30 to 7 p m dinner 7 to 8 p m and entertainment 8 to 9 p m. All members and families are invited to attend and participate.
