Local residents and relatives from Lancaster, Pottstown, and Philadelphia spent days in the boro visiting families and attending church and Y M C A events. The notes also mention travel by auto 174 miles to Bally and Hershey ordination attendance.
Samuel C. Myers, 72, died after a reaper dragged him at the Knox farm near Christiana while his son in law Fassenegger tried to adjust the machine. His right arm was severed and he bled to death before a physician arrived. nine children survive. Deputy Coroner Wesley Keen ruled the death accidental and the funeral was held Friday at his former Centerville home, with interment in Christiana.
A Lancaster County man Jason B. Sandoe white 26 and Ella Hagler a colored woman about 21 were licensed to marry by the Dauphin County Recorder at Harrisburg on Wednesday. Sandoe listed residence as Lancaster County and occupation as farm hand. They sought ministers at the recorder’s office and planned to marry that evening.

Trinity Church will be closed tomorrow with no Sunday school or church service due to the pastor’s absence Rev Monntz.

Elizabeth Graybill and Samuel Deppen noted as siblings. Interments at Ranch U B Cemetery and Sinking Spring respectively.
H. K. Storb, the Overland dealer, sold and delivered three fully equipped 1918 touring cars to Geo. Howard of Baldwin's Store, Mrs. Eugene Murr of New Holland, and Wm. L. Jacoby of Ephrata. He traveled to Philadelphia to sign the 1914 Overland contract. The 1914 model brings late improvements and fine design, with high market potential.
The funeral of Mrs Susan Brurkholder, held from her son’s home in the borough last Friday morning, was the first auto funeral in the community. J C Henninger oversaw the service, and the trip to Hess Mennonite Church at Rome near Lititz took about fifty five minutes, deemed excellent time for such an occasion.
Issac Buckwalter of Jackson street is the new clerk at the local post office. Miss Elsie Doerr, longtime clerk, is appointed assistant to the postmaster following R N Bowers resignation.
Cap the roan horse owned by Mail Carrier Geo W Bair is taking two weeks off after six years of service on Route 1. The horse has made 924 trips and logged about 24 034 miles through fair and inclement weather serving patrons on alternating days.
The Board announces new appointments to establish a borough board of health under a state act. Five members are named with terms from one to five years, serving without pay. Duties include drainage, hygiene, water, and finance committees, and physicians must report certain diseases to authorities. Citizens urged to cooperate and report nuisances.
A five year old girl wandered away from her parents during a Muddy Creek picnic in Brecknock township. Ella M Selverling found the child crying near the Stone Hill schoolhouse and identified her as Maggie Gensemer of Battonwood Street Reading. She was taken to Solomon Shupp's home until the parents arrived to reclaim her.
Samuel Myers known as Dusty, longtime New Holland resident, injured Monday while closing a case at Armstrong linoleum factory in Lancaster. A nail glancing off his hand and striking his eye initially looked destructive but now offers hope for saving the eye. He formerly played for New Holland silk mill team and Mountville. friends fear for his sight but hope for a full recovery.
Town Council approved bills of 149.15 and left 2245.28 in treasury. An electric light on Franklin street was ordered. An ordinance banning dogs on borough streets without owners was authorized. Appointments to the board of health for 1918 include Burkholder Wentz Hoffman Mentzer and Smith with terms ranging from 1 to 5 years.
Mrs Adam Fry of this bore owns a large night blooming cactus now in bloom with about thirteen flowers. Open flowers numbered six or seven more expected over the next evenings, one measuring 9 inches in diameter. The public is invited to call and view the blooming beauty.
The Last Day of a four week clearance sale by B Harris & Co. clothiers and furnishers in this borough closes today. Shoppers are urged to take advantage of money saving bargains before the sale ends, as many more bargains remain.
J P Summers J P Ratter H E Rutter and Amos Diller fished Tuesday at the river landing thirty six bass along with eels and perch. The group calls it a fine string and the boys are proud of their success.
New Holland hosts Mountville with Newswanger pitching a steady winbacked defense. Elmer struggled for Mountville while Evans and Eric led New Holland with solid hits and sharp fielding. crowd pleased with the improved local play and a looming Manheim matchup tomorrow.
Dr. Samuel G. Dixon announces a new marriage license form requiring both applicants to appear separately before the clerk of the Orphans' Court in Lancaster. Health and fitness concerns will bar licenses for those with diseases, mental instability, intoxication, or inability to support a family, with clerks allowed to certify cases to the judge if unsatisfied. Licenses will not be issued on Saturday afternoons to allow judge review when certification is needed.
N N Lauder of New Holland sold and delivered a Ford touring car to Clayton Hershey near Hershey's Church. Over 200 similar cars were sold in Lancaster County in under a year. An advertisement in another column lists new Ford prices effective August 1 1913.
A Thursday evening lecture titled Electricity on the Farm will be held in Paradise I O F Hall on August 8 1918 at 7 30. It will illustrate with forty slides how electricity on the farm can be profitable and labor saving. Additional talks on farming will be given and music provided free. The event is hosted by the Intercourse Electric Light Heat Power Co and invites all, especially farmers.
A horse and buggy belonging to D J Zartman disappeared last Saturday near Schoeneck. Horace Reitz and Amos Messner were arrested near New Holland after offering a stolen team for sale. The description matched Zartman's property and the pair were jailed in Lancaster County after being held in Pottstown.
J. C. Voerr, living next door to this office, presented a potato that looks like a curved-stem pipe. From a distance it is easy to mistake it for an odd Murphy pipe, a curious natural likeness noted in town.
