Gas blast destroys Bowmansville home near Silver Hill
A gas explosion used to rid the Burkhart residence of bats blew out the east end of a 26 by 48 foot frame house two miles southeast of Bowmansville near Silver Hill schoolhouse. The resulting fire destroyed the structure in the early morning, with an estimated loss of 6000 dollars. The Burkharts and their five children were away. Bowmansville and Adamstown firefighters saved the barn and other outbuildings.

Miss Mary Frances Clark sixty nine of Lancaster died Tuesday afternoon at 4 20 oclock from complications after a years long illness She was born in Byerstown Salisbury township daughter of the late Joseph and Anna M Williams Clark resided in Lancaster five years previously in Slaymakerstown near Gap where she worked as a seamstress and belonged to Bellevue Presbyterian church Gap She is survived by brothers John E Clark of Lancaster and Frank P Clark of Monmouth Illinois and sister Mrs Emma Jackaway of Strasburg Brief services will be held at Fred F Groff Inc funeral parlors Lancaster Friday morning at 9 oclock with interment in Bellevue cemetery Gap.

Child Fatally Struck by Horse In Barn Forebay
Eva Jane Hoover two and a half year old daughter of Daniel N Hoover and wife of New Holland RD 1 was fatally injured when a horse charged into a barn as the child played in the forebay. She died of a fractured skull at Lancaster General Hospital after emergency treatment. Survived by her parents two brothers Earl Elmer and extended family. Services were held at the Hoover home then Weaverland Mennonite church with interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Fire Destroys Large Berks County Barn
Firefighters from Adamstown and Maple Grove battled a blaze that destroyed a large framed barn owned by Mahlen Zeimer of Maple Grove, northeast of Adamstown. Loss includes wheat hay crops farm implements a tractor and fifty chickens with more than 4,000 feet of hose used. The fire started around 7 30 pm discovered by Mrs Zeimer after smoke appeared from the barn. Attempts to draw water from a distant stream failed. Maple Grove pool water aided booster tank operations but could not save the structure or adjacent buildings.
