A 1943 letter from Wimer A. Martin in Colonia Menno Paraguay addresses Martin and friends in Ephrata. He defends truthfulness, notes orange and banana trees, and explains past letters on potato yields, promising a longer note and broader sharing of information. Continued on Page 3.
The Boy Scout Troop Committee met Monday evening with thirteen members present. They discussed sending Scouts to Farm Camp at Quarryville and Camp Welshova for a three day program costing $1.00 per day, with date to be announced. A family picnic for supporters is planned for Sunday August 22, with Clyde An, Lee Stauffer, John Sweigles, and Kurtz in charge.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Blue Ball Fire Company will hold another salvage collection event. A committee will organize the drive and solicit community participation in the Blue Ball and surrounding vicinity.
Liberty Fire Company heard a call to all New Holland Civilian Defense Corps members to report for duty during blackout and air raid alarm tests. The meeting stressed that the lack of firemen at the last test could hinder response in a real raid and urged greater participation in all tests.
The New Holland District School Board moved opening from August 30 to September 7 to help harvest work. They accepted Miss Joan C. Cox’s resignation as music teacher. she will join Ephrata borough schools. Painting of the west side of the building will be completed before September.
A surprise party celebrated Betty Jacoby on her four teenth birthday July 31 1948 at home. Guests from Philadelphia and local names attended with gifts, dancing and games amid a red white and blue color scheme.

It closes with a Dippy P S hare and a note that continued on Page 8.
The G O P Club plans a picnic on August 11 at Overly's Grove. Koup will feature the refreshments with chicken served.
The store will close Wednesday afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m. and Sundays evenings during August. Hours will resume as normal in September.
People who wish to register to help harvest tomato and potato crops can go to The Clarion office. Adults and children are eligible. No food should be wasted this year.
The wedding of Eleanor Margaret Wilson and Theodore M. Gregg occurred Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the United Brethren Church parsonage White Horse. Rev. F. E. Druckenbrod officiated with Bertram Keneagy and the groom's mother as attendants. The bride wore a white dress with red rose corsage. They will reside with the bride’s parents.
Lorraine Gregg Moore daughter of Mr and Mrs George Duffield Gregg Paradise R1 married Pvt John C Wilson Jr son of Mr and Mrs John C Wilson Kinzer R1 in Virginia on Saturday July 10 at 9 PM The account notes the bride wore a white net dress and mentions a continuation on Page 8.
East Earl family announces the engagement of Miriam E. Ewell to Sgt Leon Hoadley of Deposit New York. Sgt Hoadley is stationed with the Army Air Force at Seymour Johnson Field North Carolina.
J B Fisher writes from Montana visiting Billings and Miles City along the Yellowstone and Slowtrans rivers. He describes the region as the hub of sheep and cattle, with irrigation supporting crops including wheat alfalfa corn sugar beets beans peas and some tomatoes. Orchards near Billings offer a few apples while celery is rare and lettuce is common greens.
Lt. Doris Rowbotham from Leola writes from a U S Army Nurse center in India describing her arrival and first impressions in a letter dated March 7, 1943. She notes smooth sailing, a cool breeze in a large room, and that her unit is temporarily stationed before moving on.
Liberty Fire Company met to discuss revisions of bylaws and constitution. Chief Engineer George S. Good resigned and was accepted. Two new members, Charles Sumner and George K. Ludwig, were elected. Hats and gear were numbered for identification. Volunteers were invited for a Firemen's School at McKaskey High on August 28 and 29. Sympathy was sent to John Shetzley after his wife’s death. A September refreshment committee was appointed with George W. Fuller chair and Richard Muckle Franklin Buckwalter as members.
The eighteenth annual Lion Club picnic will be on Tuesday August 10 at the New Holland Swimming Pool. Activities run 4:00 to 5:30 assemble 5:30 to 6:30 games 6:30 to 7:80 lunch served by the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion. Vic tory Band will provide music. If rain, event moves to New Holland High School auditorium.
