The April term of criminal court opened at 10 o'clock Monday with Judges Bandis and Landis presiding. Seventy-nine cases were returned to the grand jury. Judge Landis noted changing conditions and suggested legislative consideration to reduce grand jury burden and save county funds.
The jury found Marshall guilty after a mix up and he entered a plea of guilty to the charge. He received eighteen months in prison. Albert Booty had already been committed to prison.
Obituaries report Elizabeth Emrey Wanner wife of George Emrey died of peritonitis at her West Philadelphia home leaving three daughters Edith Lillian and Margaret and a mother Mrs Margaret Wanner of Hermitage plus several brothers and sisters. Additional notices memorialize Ira W Schnader of Bareville age 26 with parents Daniel and Sarah and siblings and Rufas Schnader also of Bareville who died at the General Hospital following typhoid fever. other brief deaths include Mrs Clayton Hornish near Landisville aged 26 and Washington Pennock of Embreeville. Funeral details indicate Pequea Presbyterian Church and Voganville Reformed Church fixtures.
Thieves ripped open the New Holland post office in the early hours, blowing the front door and cracking the safe with nitro, taking about 235 dollars in cash and 885 dollars in stamps. An empty mail bag was also removed, and a small amount of stamped envelopes were damaged. No clue to the culprits. a 250 dollar reward is offered by the Postal Department.

On Monday forenoon at Albert Lippus’s cigar factory in Ephrata a three year old, Jesie Lip pus, and a companion lit paper syrups at a stove. Jesie died that evening from severe burns. his mother, badly burned, slowly improves with medical care.
The Trinity Lutheran Church Sunday School held its annual meeting Monday evening. Treasurers reports show a total year expenditure of 490.85 with 108.92 for benevolence and 872 for school support, plus repairs to the church. Officers elected include Superintendent R. S. Brubaker, Secretary Mary Kobler, Treasurer Oe Me, and several members for the upcoming year.

Miss Overly and Mrs Townsley spent days in Reading. Rutter party returned to Irving College Mechanicsburg after visiting E M Rutter. Schlauch and wife from Philadelphia visited relatives. Gilfillan and sister from Paterson N J with Styer House family. Stauffer family visited sister Mrs James P Davis. Mrs Geist of Blue Ball with sister Mrs Emrey in West Philadelphia. Isaac Witwer of Philadelphia in town several days. Martin Murr of Philadelphia stayed awhile. Mrs Fannie Geigley and Miss Elva Raezer attended Levit Ruyzer silver wedding at Bird in Hand last Saturday. Mrs William Smith of Harrisburg visiting Geo L Smith.
Roy Hess son of Amos Hess miller at Hess Mill was injured when a six horse team shied at a passing train at Gap. The wagon wheel passed over him. he sustained multiple broken ribs and other injuries and was moved to his home. He is nephew of Bil Hess of the borough.
