Past President of Lions International from Memphis Tennessee was guest speaker at the Paradise Township Lions Club anniversary meeting in Lancaster Wednesday night. Seven charter members were honored with a year Monarchy Chevron.
The Lutheran Home-Coming Service at Trinity Lutheran Church in this borough will feature Rev. Ellerslie A. Lebo of St. Paul’s Lutheran, Millersville, as speaker on Sunday April 18 at 7:00 p.m. Vocal selections from Miss Margaret Dommel of Lancaster and Mr. Earl Furlow of Lancaster accompany the program. The Rev. George W. Wilt will give the welcome and oversee Sunday School. The public is invited.
Corporal James A. Wenger, son of Mr and Mrs Addison Wenger, has been reassigned to Bedford Air Force Station in Massachusetts after a furlough at home from Nome Alaska. Mrs George Mearig of LeRoy New York and her daughter Nancy Mearig a Belmont New York teacher, visited Lancaster and borough families before returning home. William Kurtz of Gonestoga Street has recovered from surgery at Doncaster General Hospital. Mrs Frank Lammey, her son James and daughter April spent the weekend with a sister near Altoona Pennsylvania.
Pupils at Summitville school will stage a spelling bee on Saturday evening April 24 starting at seven thirty. Two spelling classes and a general information class are planned with special music. Teachers are Mrs Henry Miller and Mrs Earl Pierce.

The Loyal Workers Circle of King's Daughters held its monthly meeting at Unite Brethren Church with 82 members. Mrs. Jonathan Martin led Bible study and delegates were appointed for the May State Convention in Pittsburgh. A committee was formed to plan the circle's twenty fifth anniversary and members discussed donations to the Narberth Home for the Aged and Holiday House.
A biographical sketch notes Hill a Hill High School graduate from Albright College Reading who worked as a street car conductor to pay college expenses. He served as administrative assistant to J. Edgar Hoover in Washington and carried out secret wartime counter espionage tasks for the government. He resigned from the FBI in July 1947 to the Philadelphia office and was admitted to practice before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
Lewis E. Schnupp 49 a longtime Lancaster Borough resident died Monday at St Josephs Hospital Lancaster after three months illness. A former professional boxer known as New Holland Ploughboy he fought 105 bouts 1918 1924 mostly as a middleweight meeting top rivals. He later operated an ice route and served in wartime essential jobs. Funeral was held Thursday at 2 30 pm from Eschenshade Funeral Home and burial at Zeltenreich Cemetery.
John W. Swarthafer, fifty, of 642 Lehigh Avenue, Lancaster, died Wednesday at 1:30 a.m. at his home. He leaves Elsie, wife of Hang Houck, New Holland, and Alice, wife of Ralph Houck, Leola. Funeral services will be held from Fred Fs Parlors in Lancaster on Saturday at 10:30. Interment in Mellinger’s Cemetery. Friends may call at Groft's this evening between 7 and 9.

The groom a New Holland High School and Stevens Trade School graduate served in the U S Army and works for Precision Machine Works Lancaster.
Miss Nancy Huss daughter of Mr and Mrs John C Huss of Lancaster married Elmer G Rohrer son of Mr and Mrs Clayton M Rohrer of Banks R1 at 2 pm Saturday in the United Brethren Covenant Church parsonage Lancaster The Rev Q T Erhart officiated Betty M Bennett cousin of the bride was maid of honor Nelson G Rohrer the bridegroom s brother served as best man The bride wore white lace trim and carried white gladioli and snapdragons The maid of honor wore pink satin with net trim and carried a mixed bouquet A luncheon was hosted by the bride s sister Mrs Hugh Hodgen The couple will reside in West Lancaster where Mr Rohrer is farming.

The double ring ceremony was used. They will reside in Goodville where the groom works at Goodville Auto Body and Fender Works after a brief wedding trip.

A shipment of spray material was misread by Ivan Nolt and George N Zimmerman. The two sprays looked similar but different names caused the death of thirty-two steers on Zimmerman’s farm last Thursday through Saturday. The old spray did not require dilution, while the new one penetrated the skin and proved fatal to all but nine by Thursday noon.
