Devastating Blue Ball Fire Engulfs Diller Stable
A major arson blaze in Blue Ball, Lancaster County, destroyed the two story Diller stock stable on the central street. Firefighters and residents from New Holland and nearby towns battled intense flames for hours, saving only some horses and equipment as surrounding buildings including the Shirk factory and the Blue Ball Creamery faced collapse. The wind pushed the fire quickly, and heavy stock on the second floor fed the inferno. Fire crews and local volunteers worked through the night, with notes of contributions and a $5 pledge from M H Grube toward a nearby warehouse.

Live stock sales continue briskly at local inns and stables
Geo K Diller dominates regional livestock trade with back to back auctions. On Thursday he sold a large lot of horses and mules at Levi Alderfer s Washington House in Churchtown. Today he offers a choice stock lot at the Blue Ball hotel stables and next Thursday hosts a spring opening sale at Blue Ball featuring 160 head of horses and various livestock. Boro Council Holds April Meeting and Resigns Bond Official
The boro council met in regular session with all members present. Burgess Brubaker’s resignation from the Bond of Health was accepted and Oliver B. Brubaker was appointed to the vacancy. Tax collector Doerr paid $10 and was authorized to collect all outstanding taxes. Bills totaling $19.90 were approved for payment and the highway committee was authorized to accept crushed stone at $1.25 per perch. Street lighting bill of $276.35 was ordered paid and a new uniform for the high constable was approved. The clerk was instructed to prepare the 190% tax duplicate before adjournment.
