Trinity Lutheran Church outlines Holy Week services with themes I Am the Life on Tuesday at 7 30 p m I Am the Vine on Wednesday Maundy Thursday I Am the Bread with Holy Communion Good Friday I Am Alpha and Omega.
Pennsylvania marks a legal holiday known as Forefathers Day. The General Assembly set aside the day to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the landing of the first Swedish colonists, and the local bank is closed.
The New Holland Rod and Gun Club will hold its monthly target shoot on club grounds southeast of the borough starting at 1 p m this Saturday.
George W. Styer nineteen of Fet terville was killed when the automobile he rode in collided with a Reading Company freight train at Vine mont crossing Berks county near Reinholds. Injured were Paul Harnish twenty seven and his brother Harry twenty three both of New Holland.
The Borough Council re elected H. Newton Mearig as health officer and approved Ordinance No. 64 laying out portions of State Street Union Avenues and Katz Avenues Locust Street. Deeds for pavement land on Locust Street Union Avenue and State Street were accepted. Secretary Lowry tasked with paying borough dues to the State Association. Erie hosts the June meeting.
Recent relocations include William Kurtz moving from 376 East Main St to 246 S Railroad Ave. August Hartinger leaves R. 1 for 209 S Front St Columbia Pa. Howard Barr relocates from R. 2 to Gap Pa. Weaver Martin moves from R. 2 to 285 West Main Street.
Bowmansville in eastern Lancaster county is praised by a 1888 correspondent for its industrious hospitable townsfolk. The issue notes a Lyceum debate on wealth versus education and Cedar Grove’s Mock Court where a defendant was charged with chicken theft and forced to eat a bushel of chicken soup daily for a year.
Local workers of the Women's Field Army of the American Society for the Control of Cancer met at the Lancaster YWCA. Dr John L Atlee Sr spoke and Mrs Albert M Herr led the meeting while Mrs R B Whitmore recruits in New Holland and Earl Township. Contributions support cancer research.
Fremont W. Shirk eighty died at 7 15 p m Wednesday of complications at his home 37 Church street Ephrata He ran a machine shop there for years before retiring He served on Ephrata Borough Council 1918 1922 and was a Knights of Malta Lancaster member He survived by his wife Elizabeth Adams Shirk five sons Wilson Peter R Harvey Elmer Charles all of Ephrata a daughter Sallie Ammon of Lincoln and a brother John L Shirk of Reading Funeral services 2 p m Sunday Hitnier and Hoffman funeral home Ephrata interment Bowman's cemetery Ephrata Friends may call Saturday evening.
Gifford Pinchot, Republican gubernatorial candidate, will speak to Lancaster county citizens tonight at 8 15 p m in Moose Hall Lancaster detailing his platform and positions for the upcoming election.

Narvon resident Harry Witwer, a 1886 high school graduate, drove along Poole Forge Road to a closed covered bridge near Route 23. He removed trestles and boards to pass, then reset them after crossing, repeating the act at both ends to proceed.

Holy Week services from Monday to Thursday are at 7 16 p m with Holy Communion on Monday Thursday. Good Friday Memorial Service runs 12 to 3 with Stations of the Cross discussed by fourteen laymen and music selections.
The King's Daughters Circle postpones the April 12 meeting to April 20 due to Holy Week services. The April 20 gathering will be at Mrs. P. R. Wentz's home.
