A longtime treasurer for Blue Ball Fire Company resigns after four decades of service, ending a 34 year tenure that supported the local firefighting organization and community.
The Blue Ball Fire Company met Monday night with twenty six new members increasing total to 208. Officers named include President D W Geist and Treasurer H W Oberholzer. Fire Chief M H Eby and other chiefs and drivers listed. delegates to the County Convention chosen. by law changes proposed to allow a chief engineer.
Army Day observances at the IX Silk Mills featured the American Legion Conestoga Post 662 and Frank II and Sons employees. Edna S Brugger received a flag in memory of her husband Private John E Brugger killed in action in Italy. The event honored 32 United Nations flags and urged continued war materiel production until victory. Wayne B Ranch introduced Charles A Mentzer as post commander and liaison officer.
Fire of undetermined origin Friday afternoon caused about 3000 dollars in damage to the home of William F. Harsh on West Main Street. Liberty Fire Company junior members and five high school students aided as Principal J. Harvey Shue ordered help. Carl Driscoll led the students. attic items and roof were destroyed. Debris removal and re roofing were underway with slate planned. The Harsh family stayed with a daughter, Mrs. Amos R. Good.
Miss Elva M. Raezer, former member of St Stephen Reformed Church, installed deaconess of Hope Reformed Church in West Philadelphia. She also writes for her local church paper and is the daughter of Rev. George B. Raezer of Lititz.
A 1894 Lancaster item describes Coxey leading unemployed workers toward Washington to press for bond funded road construction.
