Sergeant Ray B. Sensenig of this borough earned the Bronze Star for courage on the Fifth Army front in Italy with the 363rd Infantry Regiment, 91st Powder River Division. He led a solo entry and road block that repelled enemy counterattacks. a Purple Heart is noted and he is now a staff sergeant.
Lancaster County Firemen visited Liberty Fire Company at the High School to hear Frank II and Sons Company describe an industrial fire prevention program. The plan includes weekly drills, strategic equipment placement, and waste disposal. County Fire Marshall reports recent fire losses with significant property saved.
An Honor Roll plaque listing eighty four employees with three fallen is dedicated on South Roberts Avenue and Franklin Street in this borough. Gold Star mothers and a sister unveiled the plaque as the New Holland High School Glee Club performed. Company officials and local pastors spoke on supporting service members.
At the April meeting the Liberty Fire Company authorized the sale of its Franklin Street tract to the New Holland Machine Company. George S. Good reported the ambulance service resuscitator will be available within six weeks. William FE Is, commander of Conestoga Post No 602 American Legion, formed a committee for Memorial Day activities at the post meeting. Members include Mentzer, Ranch, Ix, Hillegass, Robinson, and Stone. The post received National Commander Atherton’s loyalty cards after meeting the quota. Mentzer reported Lancaster County Council’s Groff urged schools to teach more American history to preserve the American way of life.
The New Holland V E Day Observance Committee directs attending a prayer service at a church of choice or staying home with loved ones when excused from work. If news arrives before 12 noon, a community service is at 6 p.m. that day. after noon, the service shifts to 6 p.m. the following day.
