The New York Evening Post urges laboring men to vote for Democratic candidates for Congress rather than Radical protectionists. It argues that all Radical candidates in the state back the tariff swindle and pledge to continue the revenue policy, with laboring people paying the tax that raises profits for protected capital.
The Twelfth Annual Posey County Agricultural Society Fair drew strong attendance and the best stock displays yet. Weather shifted from rain to clear heat as rings showcased trotting and pacing horses, mules, and cattle, with premium prizes awarded and plans noted for future fairs aided by rail access.
On Sunday September 18 1870 at the bride's mother's residence four miles south of New Harmony Oliver N Fretageot and Mary Ellen Highmay were united in marriage by Rev W T Erwin. The cake proved excellent and well wishes were given for the couple's happiness. The notice also records Mumford Bishop marriage September 22 1870 by Rev Thomas W Mitchell Thomas Mumford and Euna Bishop both of New Harmony. The office thanks readers for cake and wine and extends congratulations to the newlyweds.
