Balloon ascent and parachute drop thrills local crowd

At 4 30 yesterday evening the xronaut rose about half a mile with light air toward the north giving spectators a fine view. He drifted near Gresham creek and then the balloon moved a mile east before capsizing and the craft descended.

Local riding events list and prize winners

Five or six entries rode in the boys ring on Wednesday afternoon with premiums awarded to Arthur Whittaker first Rob Owen second and Harry Culpepper third. Ella Bennett led the ladies riding yesterday morning as the sole entry. In the gentlemen’s riding yesterday afternoon Ed Gentry won first with Frank Schaffer second.

Novel flax exhibit draws crowd at Lynn fair

A large Monday crowd flocked to the Lynn fairground free admission day to see an 1850 flax exhibit by Chris Wilson as organizers claim the biggest display yet. Police maintain order while Barney Logan wears the superintendent badge and H B Fitton with Geo Davia verify baskets. Exhibits exceed last year with 8000 attendees and about $800 in gate receipts. a hot week continues with rain shifts and a Saturday reschedule for Tuesday events.
