Gov Chase was in Poseyville, but local item notes a farm incident on Thomas Fletchall’s property. A blooded hog vanished after Aug threshing and straw stacking. The hog reappeared under a straw stack 72 days later, after surviving extreme heat with no food or water, and was found by chance.

Indiana Acting Governor Ira J. Chase Visits Posey County

Ira J. Chase, acting Indiana governor and Republican gubernatorial candidate, toured Posey County last Sunday. He preached at the Methodist church in the morning to a fair crowd, then went to Mt. Vernon for a nighttime sermon. Despite the nickname fighting parson, no violence is reported during his visit.

Local anglers reel in large Wabash river bass catch

John H. Chaffin brought home a prime string of bass from the Wabash river two miles below town. On Saturday Jo and Harmon Hofreiter landed 37 bass and several jack-salmon at the cut-off falls. Wilworth Hume hooked a 4 pound bass at Black river last Saturday. T W Wilson took five bass weighing 2 to 3 pounds at Foote Pond last week. Harmon Hofreiter fished the old dam Tuesday and collected 24 black and striped bass totaling 22 pounds.

Wall Caved In At Hempiing’s Ice House

Last Saturday the cellar wall at Hempiing’s new ice house collapsed as bricklayers began work, narrowly missing three men. Hal Wilmoth was knocked down by the fall, employee Clarence Worlds was partly buried and rescued, another worker Wandever escaped injury. None hurt, but a close call.

Milton Daly and Jesse Rutledge were in town last Sunday from Poseyville. Mr. and Mrs. Chas Yarbrough came from Poseyville last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. V. P. Bozeman and Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Lockwood were here Sunday from Poseyville. Mrs. Martha Kershaw visited this week from Tennessee. Mrs. H. Husband returned from St. Louis last Saturday. Carrie Pelham visits Bloomington friends. Prof. Geo. Taylor and Peter Weber were in Mt. Vernon last Sunday. C. P. Wolfe also in Mt. Vernon this week. J. T. Eagle was at home on Sunday.
