Tin Mines Found Along Lake Superior Shore
Letters from the north shore near Otterhead report a great tin bearing region between Sault Ste. Marie river and Thunder Bay. Vein runs fifteen miles along the coast and eight inland with stream tin deposits yielding about 35 percent metal. Noted as a major shift from imports from Cornwall and Germany, the ore is said to be far richer and inexhaustible plus traces of silver iron and copper found nearby. Also discussed: Samana Bay Company plans and a purported U S protectorate over San Domingo under President Grant to support annexation aims.

Old joker’s yarn and rural editor’s obituary noticed
An old joker mocks a traveler’s tale of a brick house moved on runners up a hill and a two story house drawn by oxen. Joseph Murray of Mansfield is praised for inventing the circular law, and a rural editor eulogizes a trusted advertiser with a wry pensioner joke. London clergymen also write for secular papers.
