Oldest Democratic voter in Indiana honored by Montgome ry Township

The Owensville Democrat notes Nathan Knowles Sr born June 17 175 in Sussex County Delaware moved to Indiana Territory in 1811 and has since lived in Gibson County. At 100 on June 17 184 he would be the state s oldest Democratic voter and a lifelong farmer known for his intelligence integrity and political faith. A second item from Columnus Inc June 1 describes William Isintrigger alias Singbilly a local prodigy who can play tunes using his lungs causing his body to writhe and facial contortions though he says it does not hurt him.

Surprise arrival after clothing swap at creek

A Fulton county farmer rode home in his new suit after discarding his old clothes into a creek on a dark night. Missing package aboard the wagon led to a surprise entrance for his family. The next morning the stripped bundle was found hanging from the brake, causing further surprise. Meanwhile Crawfordsville young women organized a street parade escorting several young men to a hall for a rousing exhibition that drew attention.

Ordinance 41 Levy for New Harmony taxes 1891

The Town of New Harmony Indiana passes Ordinance 41 on May 26 1891. It levy taxes for Tuition 25 cents per 100 dollars value and Special School 15 cents per 100 dollars. Additional dog taxes and poll tax levies are set to defray town expenses with the auditor to enter on the county duplicate and the treasurer to collect. The document is signed by President RAWLINGS and Town Clerk Henry Brown with attestation May 29.

Two New County Officers Appointed and Elections

The county commissioners appointed Thomas Mills as assessor. A township meeting failed to elect a county superintendent after 32 ballots, a 33rd ballot tied 5-5 between O. L. Sewell and Walter French, with the auditor casting the deciding vote for French. A single ballot chose Thomas Mills for assessor with one vote for Ezra Stephens, while Memorial Day events in Bethsadia included G A R ceremonies, music, speeches, a large crowd, a parade of vehicles, a picnic, a runaway accident causing injuries, and over 2,000 attendees.

A public sale is set at the West Door of the Posey County Court House Mount Vernon for a decree against Elijah Cox Sr and others. The property includes the South East Quarter of the South West Quarter of Section One and a 40 acre tract in Township Five South Range Thirteen West with rents for up to seven years.
