Population of Europe compared to a hundred years ago
A Berlin paper notes Europe now has about 300 million inhabitants versus 60 million a century ago. The six principal powers hold four fifths of the population: Russia 110,000,000, Germany 40,000,000, France 36,500,000, Austria-Hungary 35,000,000, Great Britain 32,000,000, and July 26,500,000. A century ago the five great powers had half the total, prior to Poland's partition.
