Old Citizen James Bennett Dies After Long Printing Career
James Bennett died at his son-in-law Dr. D Neat’s residence on Tuesday night aged 55 or 56. He moved to town as a boy and learned printing at the School of Industry. In 1846 he published the New Harmony Western Atlas later renamed the Gleaner and backed democracy in 1848. He taught many, helped in the Atlas office, and last set types for the paper, a coincidence with his early work. He long belonged to the New Harmony Brass Band. He leaves three sons one daughter and nine grandchildren.
