Explosion at Slaughter House Lard Tank Causes Major Damage
A large steam lard tank exploded at the slaughter house of Messrs. A Lieutenseraer Co last Wednesday morning. The tank near the firm mill hurled the 300 pound head to the mill’s third story shattering beams and damaging machinery. A four pound fragment was found a quarter mile away. The charge, valued at 175, spread lard on surrounding objects. No lives were lost though one man had a narrow escape. The firm estimates losses at 1000 to 1200.
